« on: January 30, 2019, 02:28 PM »Just load up the N8 with PAL roms and you're right to go. I live in Australia so grew up playing PAL roms. You won't notice a difference unless you're used to an NTSC NES and then switch back to PAL after gaming for a while. Yes I own both NTSC and PAL NES consoles. If you insist on running NTSC roms on a PAL console though, the slowness isn't as bad as people say it is. You won't even notice it much if you're used to using a PAL console.There are tons of games that never had pal versions though. Also in pal the picture is squashed, i.e sprites looks fat, circles look like ovals etc.

Yes they accept SD and SDHC cards, so that's up to 32GB. The ones over 32 are SDXC.

Interesting! It doesn't seem to happen with my Disk System version (but does happen when running the FDS version on everdrive). I was going to buy a NES cart just to test this out but the game + a nes-to-fc adapter isn't that cheap.

Argh, I'm getting those flickering lines in Zelda 2 on AV Famicom, got my hopes up for that beta firmware but it didn't fix them.

Guys don't forget if you want absolutely perfect FDS audio, plus a button to change disk sides, you can get fdsstick for about $9 and an fds ram adaptor. Surely beats emulation no matter how close krikzz gets it

Although I'm not 100% sure if this difference in sound quality is the mapper's fault, but that's what I assume since the other sound channels sound fine.
As he says in this thread: "Sunsoft 5B has a real analogue DAC, while the FPGA is feeding a digital I/O pin with a massively oversampled (50MHz sampling rate) and dithered waveform of the audio waveform signal."

The upgrades to CPU and PPU were probably only to make them cheaper to produce. Only very early Famicom CPUs and PPUs are actually missing features that was added in later versions. And these Famicoms are much more rare.I suppose there's ways around it but my modded original Fami shows jailbars, my AV is a nicer picture. I'd recommend AV for CRT use too. Forget those giant ugly grey carts and embrace the colourful plastic.

EverDrive N8 / Legend of Zelda (never mind...)

I'm playing through the No-Intro ROM Legend of Zelda, The (USA).nes, using Everdrive N8 Famicom, on an AV Famicom.
There's a memory related bug where I'm in a dungeon, say Level 5 or 6, I press start to bring up the menu, and I'm instantly taken back to a specific part of the overworld map far away from the dungeon. My money, health, items are reset back to where they were about an hour ago, losing any progress I'd recently made.
So I'm wondering if this is a known bug with this version of Zelda, possibly fixed in the Legend of Zelda, The (USA) (Rev A).nes version, or if this is an Everdrive bug.
I couldn't find any mention of it being a known Zelda issue.
I'll probably end up having to start playing again from scratch using the Rev A version (or see if I can edit the save to make it work) but just wondered if anyone had any insight.

No the DSP4 isn't compatible with DSP1 games. AFAIK you can only solder the DSP1 to the board. The others only have 1 game each anyway, may as well just buy those carts if you're desperate to play them.
