A few Mega EverDrive questions
« on: April 30, 2018, 10:56 AM »
Hi there.

I'm highly considering getting a mega EverDrive at some point but I have a few questions.
I'm considering either the X5 or X7 but not sure which is best for me just yet.

Is there any official games that the X7 can play that the X5 can't?

I am not bothered about Sega 32X and CD but I do want to play master system games.

If I play master system games on a mega EverDrive on a mega drive model 1 can I use an official master system controller as well as a mega drive controller (not at the same time of course)?

I own an unmodded PAL system but would like to play some NTSC games. Can they both handle that?

Many thanks.

main differences between

Mega ED X5
* 64mbit (8mbyte) PSRAM.
* 56mbit (7mbyte) max ROM size.
* 128Kbyte Battery RAM

Mega ED X7
* 128mbit (16mbyte) PSRAM.
* 120mbit (15mbyte) max ROM size.
* 256Kbyte Battery RAM

and these are exclusive to X7 only
* YM2413 core by Necronomfive
* EEPROM and SRAM saves support
* Firmware update through SD card
* Built in audio playback. WAV, GYM, TFC
* In-game menu that allows access back to menu
* Snapshot Saves.

I'm a bit of a noob with Mega Drive games so the X7 sounds better but I don't really get what you gain practically. I know you get save states but does the extra memory etc make any difference for official release games. For example with other other EverDrives a higher model is needed to play certain games.

For any official games it doesn't matter.

Just check out the comparison chart on the website. If it's just for playing official mega drive games then the x3 is already good enough. The x7 can run big
size hacks and can playback fm sound for master system games.

Oh ok. So X7 is needed for FM sound? I think the X7 might be best for me.
