Mega EverDrive / Re: X7 / PRO : USB port for homebrew development

You can’t turn the Genesis on/off, but you won’t have to either. The Megalink software lets you transfer your ROM to the SD card over USB, and you can use the regular functions of the Everdrive to reset/load the new file.

I’m no developer but I’ve played with this through a couple of the Coding Secrets tutorials and it works really well.

The software gives you some handy debug tools too.

As for the corrupted card, you might try using the official SD Association formatter. It often seems able to fix issues that the regular OS format command won't. https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/

EverDrive N8 / Re: EverDrive N8 and Mini Nr Noir issue

Sounds power-related to me. I’m using an N8 Pro (Famicom version) with my Noir connected by RGB to a CRT and everything appears to work perfectly.

Here you go. Other than these, I’ve got the LPF on at the default levels and turned the square wave levels down to 32 in the mix settings. But what you describe sounds like a problem with the cartridge all right. Because mine is virtually silent.

Since cartridge audio (and CD audio) are analog audio passing over the cartridge bus, you’re right: there IS amplified sound coming out. Now that said, I have the same setup (MEP and Mega Sg) and while there certainly is a minute amount of hiss at any overall volume level I use, it’s hardly enough to be a concern. It’s certainly less than my old Genesis 2 had just under normal operation. FAR less.

Still, this is exactly why that option is there in the menu of the Mega Sg.

I find a cartridge audio volume of between 48-64 feels well balanced with regular Genesis audio, and the hiss is negligible. I have to put my ear pretty close to the speakers to notice it.

Tested with my MEP and Mega Sg, seems to work fine. So Krikzz is probably right, try a different ROM.

Weird. I’m using the same pack from archive.org with no issues. Both on my old X7 and new Pro. Hope the new cards do the trick, beyond that I guess it could be a deeper issue.

Sounds like you’re getting closer! I've stopped using anything but Sandisk Ultra/Extreme cards, even though they’re overkill for something like the EverDrive. They’ve just been 100% reliable in my experience.

I had good luck with Lexar cards in the past but they don’t seem to be around here any more. All I see around other than the Sandisk ones are generic no name brands, and I’m not taking chances on those.

Also, while @Marteicos talks about 64GB or larger cards, the X7 claims to support only cards up to 32GB, which to me implies that it can handle SDHC but not SDXC cards. I’ve not experimented with larger cards, as 32GB is plenty, but you might want to watch out for that. I used a 32GB Sandisk Ultra card formatted as FAT32 (default settings) and it works perfectly. The SMS BIOS files are optional as well, you don’t *need* them.

Apart from making sure the card is formatted as noted above, don’t overthink the OS: just download the latest version from Krikzz’s download section, unzip it, and drag the resulting MEGA folder to the root of your SD card. That should be enough to have the cart working properly, even without any ROMs to try.

Mega EverDrive / Re: Mega ED Pro
« on: October 01, 2020, 05:43 PM »
Thanks for the answer, friend, the truth is that here in Brazil the pro reaches twice as many with third parties, and the library of the sega cd in my view is weak, so my real "ambition" is to have a larger library, and if with the pro would be more of the same since my X7 runs everything, now if the pro runs the 32X without the additional 32x there it would be worth the price that arrives here in my beloved corrupt country.
While the Pro supports 32x ROMs, you still need a real 32x to actually play them. So it sounds like you’ve probably got everything you need with the X7. The NES core on the Pro is really neat, but as @zaphro72 says, it’s just a fun bonus feature, not a substitute for a full NES solution. Many games work really well, but it’s far, far, far from 100%.

I’m using a Mega Sg, no idea how differently it interacts with the MEP. I do know I’ve seen a few people on original Sega hardware running into issues with official power supplies, I suspect the Sega ones deliver just enough power for normal cartridges, something like the MEP might be a bit more demanding. I’ll note that someone else had MEP issues even on the Mega Sg when using a poor USB cable for power. If the MEP pushes the Mega Sg’s power demand high enough to cause problems, I have no doubt a 30-year-old PSU would be struggling!

I got the card via Amazon.ca, and I’ve got it formatted as exFAT. The whole setup’s been a dream.

FYI, I’m using a Sandisk Extreme 400 GB card, and I’ve not had any glitches anywhere.

Worth a try at least. I'd say test it with Mega Key off first, maybe that's the actual problem. One thing at a time is always best when troubleshooting!  ;)

1. I have no issue with any Japanese Mega CD games. You'll definitely want to make sure Mega Key is OFF, otherwise it will cancel out the automatic region and PAL/NTSC switching on the Sg. That's the only setting change you should have to make on the MEP. I don't use the jailbreak firmware on the Sg, though; maybe try going back to the official 4.7 release if turning of Mega Key doesn't fix it. I should also say that every BIOS version I've tried has worked equally well.
2. My MEP fits perfectly every time. Never had an issue with it seating properly. Solid and stable, and I routinely leave it installed while ejecting the microSD card for updates.
3. 32x will work with the Sg now, as long as you have the DAC as well. Because it needs the analog overlay video cable, you can't get the 32x video via HDMI.
