Mega EverDrive / Mega Everdrive v1 - SMS Support Not Working with Megadrive MKII

Anyone come across this?  I just get a black screen no matter what game I select and no matter what region I choose in the options.  I am using OS v9 which works fine for MD and 32X games.  Now I've come to try and play SMS games it just black screens no matter what (reset option disabled, tried switching off megakey etc) - makes no difference at all.

Is the MKII megadrive incompatible?

Mega EverDrive / Mega Everdrive & 32x Purple Screen

I recently got an 32x (well, actually 2) and I've got a problem with one of them with the Mega Everdrive - though I suspect it's got NOTHING to do with the Everdrive at all since it works on one 32x.

Does anyone know why I might get a purple screen on the Everdrive cart in the 32x, when I can plug say Sonic 2 in and that's fine, OR a 32x game and that also works fine - albeit it eventually will lock up and hang.

I guess what I am trying to understand is how the 32x can affect a normal Megadrive cart - does it just have a pass through for the data and address lines or is it more complex than that?  Just trying to get pointers on what in the 32x might be causing the problem.  I've redone the ribbons btw - nothing to do with loose connections etc, definitely something wrong with my 32x, just not sure if it could be DRAM, or something else.
