Title: PC Engine Cheat Codes (Requests go here as well)
Post by: Kyle on October 11, 2013, 02:39 PM
Neither the Master System nor the PC Engine have the ability to use cheats on the Everdrive. I make IPS patch files as an alternative. These allow you to permanently patch cheats into the games.

Feel free to request a game that isn't listed. I have a similar thread for Master System over here:
http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=971.0

To patch a game:

Download LunarIPS (http://fusoya.eludevisibility.org/lips/) (Windows), MultiPatch (http://projects.sappharad.com/tools/multipatch.html) (Mac)
Download http://srktt.com/files/pcecheat.zip
Patch a matching .sms rom with the .ips file

Here is a quick tutorial:

We want Magic Engine formatted codes. Let's do Batman for example:
http://gscentral.org/codelist.php?sys=81&dev=81&game=12792672

Infinite Lives - F833AA:2

Drop F8 from the beginning and :2 from the end to get the RAM value for lives - 33AA

1. Open Mednafen (emulator) by dropping the Batman rom on to its executable
2. Hit Alt+D to open the debugger
3. Type Shift+W for breakcode write
4. Type 33AA and hit enter
5. Hit Alt+D to hide the debugger
6. Get killed to decrease the lives value. This will bring the debugger back up
7. Open Batman in a hex editor (HxD)
8. Open a find, toggle to hex, and type the hex on the right hand side:
ceaa333003
9. Change the value of the CE. I used a AD to change the decrease to a load (basically does nothing)
10. Save the rom and reopen it to see if it worked

Changes I make using this as a reference:
http://www.pcedev.net/blog/files/Otaku_no_PCE_cribsheet_page2_0_1_4.png

CE - AD
8D - AD
C6 - A5
85 - A5
DE - BD
9D - BD
D6 - B5
95 - B5
99 - BE

VisitntX has a thread over here that has some IPS patches already made:

Holy hell it's a reply! Please check the quoted list for what is already done. I tried to get all the shmups (may have missed a few). These are the only ones you posted that aren't done. I'll get them later today.

Bikkuriman World (J) [T+Eng1.00_DemiForce]
Gomola Speed\
Magical Chase (U) - J is done, can easily do U
Mr. Heli

Bloody Wolf pisses me off. It updates the health every frame and different enemies decrease it differently. I can do it. It will just take a couple of hours.

Many thanks, Kyle. Really appreciate it. Yes, many are already done. But i meant also infinite Energy/Invincibility for these games too. Because a lot of shooter annoys with a "restart" after death, puts you a bit back sometimes, e.g. Gradius, Salamander, R-Type etc. If you can bother with it. I would really like it that way.  :)

We may need VisitntX's help for invincibility stuff. I can do infinite energy no problem for games that aren't one hit kill. Like Splatterhouse for example. Stuff like R-Type requires a better knowledge of assembly.

Can you split up your list for the one hit kill games? Maybe we can get a shorter list to get his input.

Just edited the list. I asked VisitntX a few month ago for more IPS patches, but he wasn't interested anymore. Are these Magic Engine Cheats of any help for creating this difficult Invincibility cheats?

http://gscentral.org/tg16_pcengine_magic_engine.html

I also noticed that some of VisitntX's Invincibility/Energy cheats didn't work properly, e.g. they suddenly didn't work anymore later ingame in games like Legendary Axe or Ninja Spirit.

Try this for R-Type: http://srktt.com/files/rtype.zip

It has the typical Invincibility flickering but works fine as it seems. Completed the first level. Many thanks again.  :)

Edit: Actually your R-Type cheat stopped working in Level 5 and the Invincibility is gone at this point. Strange.

You stop blinking during stage 5 or as soon as it starts? If you die does it kick back in?

The problem is these invincibility codes are hard. I can do a infinite live codes in a few minutes and spend an hour or two trying to do an invincible.

I can't remember. Could be also a specific enemy that stopped the invincibility/the blinking.

Sadly no.

Never knew that these kind of cheats are that difficult. Is it always easier to do ram cheats, with the action replay type cartridges for other consoles or emulator cheats?

Here's my crappy overview of the process.

Let's say you have a game with a lives counter like Bonk. Bonk gets 3 lives. With a ram code, you find the spot in memory for lives and set it to always be 3. No big deal and you're done. With a rom code you find the ram code, then find the instruction in the game's code that tells it to decrease the counter. You replace the decrease with code to do nothing.

Energy is similar for the most part. Let's say you have a 3 hit counter. You find the decrease energy code and tell it to not to. The problem is that different enemies can use different code in the game to decrease your energy. This is much clumsier than to do than a ram code.

Invincibility is mostly trial and error for me. I find the code where the character dies and try different values. In R-Type I found the code for when you are blinking after a death and set it to always be on. I'm not sure why it doesn't work on stage 5. I'm curious if you used the infinite lives copy, got to stage 5, died and came back if you no longer blink for a few seconds. That's all I can think of without digging in.

I used the R-Type (U) [h1] rom for your invincibility patch, not patched for infinite lives before though.

Redownload/apply. Found the code where it fell off in stage 5 and fixed it. I made it to the end with this. Added bonuses that are play tested through the end of game.

I got Salamander to where you can pass through enemies but walls kill you. Want that?

Great, i will try the new R-Type patch soon. Thanks for Gunhed and Super Star Soldier too. :)

Sure, iirc this could happen in Salamander invincible cheats for other consoles too. Good enough for me.

Edit: R-Type and Gunhed works perfectly. Though i couldn't beat one of the boss enemies in Level 8, indestructible. Maybe a rare game bug. Who knows.  :)

Edit2: I would also like some more cheats requests.

Dragon Spirit (infinite energy+keep weapons after hit). There are trained roms, but both don't work on my PC-Engine Duo+Turbo Everdrive.
Aoi Blink (J) [T+Eng] (infinite Energy+lifes).
Violent Soldier (invincible)
Dragons Curse (infinite energy) (US Version of Adventure Island aka Wonder Boy III Dragon's Trap)
Psychosis (invincible)
Zipang (infinite lives)

The keep weapon thing took me a while to sort out.

Works fine, both patches. Actually you can't keep the ugraded weapons after a hit, but you can keep the 3 dragon heads. That's good enough. Thanks again.  :)

For what it's worth I make and test these in Mednafen. I've got some time tonight while the kiddo is sleeping. Anything you want ASAP? I'm trying to get the invincibility stuff knocked out because it's way more time consuming.

Kyuukyoku Tiger and Legend of Hero Tonma would be nice.  :)

Sometime yes, since it doesn't break the game flow after a death. Some games take a break and you have to start again 1-2 seconds later, and some doesn't interrupt if you loose a life. But in this case Ordyne indeed doesn't interrupt the game.  The others on my invincible list = the "one Hit kill" games do it though. I assume the "Energy bars or more than one hit" listed games should good enough with infinite energy. Thanks for the new patches, will try them.  :)

Edit1: Your Ordyne patch wasn't wasted time since you can keep all the bought weapons that way.  ;)

Edit2: Mmh, Image Fight Invincible works too. But can't collect any extras/weapons then.

Edit3: I've put Jigoku Meguri also on the invincible list. Great Taito platformer.

Edit2: Mmh, Image Fight Invincible works too. But can't collect any extras/weapons then.
I have Kyuukyoku Tiger going but it's the same. Can't pick up items.

I lucked out on these last few. I found a post on converting Mednafen codes (http://gamehacking.org/vb/threads/5110-PCE-TG16-Converting-paged-addresses-to-physical-addresses-%28Magic-Engine-gt-Mednafen%29) that to the format I need to patch roms. I can then use a bunch of invincibility codes I didn't have before from VisitntX's post here (http://gamehacking.org/vb/threads/2642-VisitntX-s-PC-Engine-Cheats). Console Calculator (http://www.zoesoft.com/console-calculator/ccalc-screenshots/) does the conversion.

OK, don't worry. You did a great job so far. If you can't patch the others it's fine. Maybe some from the Infinite Energy listed games works better then. Legendary Axe though could be problematic, since the game adds the energy left as a level bonus  and the points counter is endless then. Visitntx's invincible IPS Patch didn't work properly iirc.
Title: Re: Patching PC Engine Games for Infinite Lives
Post by: Kyle on November 04, 2013, 02:06 AM
The infinite energy stuff is easy to do. The invincible stuff either needs codes from VisitntX or gobs of trial and error from me. Another weird code:

Added Legend of Hero Tonma - invincible as long as you don't pick up powerups.
Added Gradius invincible also pretty sketchy. Could use work to improve.

Added Jigoku Meguri invincible. VisitntX had a code for this but I couldn't get it working so I made my own.

Edit: Less ghetto Gradius is up. Stay a ship and don't stop music.

Added Tatsujin invincible. Did this manually because I couldn't find codes for it.
Title: Re: Patching PC Engine Games for Infinite Lives

No problems with Tatsujin, only the music stops after any hit. Not big deal though, not the best music ever.
Title: Re: Patching PC Engine Games for Infinite Lives
Post by: Kyle on November 04, 2013, 07:13 PM
Yeah the music stopping annoys me as well. I'll try to hunt it down on the games it happens on. It is a random value so it needs trial and error to find it.
Title: Re: Patching PC Engine Games for Infinite Lives
Post by: Retro-Nerd on November 04, 2013, 07:38 PM
Gradius was fine. Jigoku Meguri though isn't completable with the invincible patch. You have to die at the final boss and turn into a dragon. Otherwise you can't beat him. Anyway, should be possible with infinite lifes maybe.
Title: Re: Patching PC Engine Games for Infinite Lives

Gradius was cool because the ship and stop music code was right next to the death code. I wish the others were like that. Gomola Speed is what is giving me grief for whatever reason.

And you can't collect the extras/weapons. There is a "special" game mode in the options, then the music still works if you get hit. Though you can't collect the extras neither.

How about Raiden?  ;)

Hehe, i suck in these things. That's why i'm glad that you can do the patches. A shame that there is no cheat device for PC-Engine ram cheats.  :D
Title: Re: Patching PC Engine Games for Infinite Lives
Post by: Kyle on November 05, 2013, 01:03 PM
Yeah, that was kind of the appeal. I like cheat codes but I don't like to play games on emulators. It was also a system I had when I was younger but haven't played in a long time so most of the games are new to me.

I spent two hours trying to find the music code for Kyuukyoku Tiger. I fixed the blades stop spinning after death, which makes it better looking. I also went to read on gamehacking.org about keeping powerups. VisitntX has a reply on the PCE patching thread where he just kind of says that is the way it is. If he wasn't willing to fix those then I am probably in over my head.

I'm going to back off the invincible stuff and just worry about infinite lives. If you want another invincible check this thread:
http://gamehacking.org/vb/threads/2642-VisitntX-s-PC-Engine-Cheats

If there is a game that has a code beginning in 1F I should be able to do it. It just seems like these lead to unexpected side effects - no music, no powerups, game can't be completed. I merged everything back into the pcecheat.zip. I also added my incomplete Bloody Wolf. This game is annoying to patch. I have it to where bullets and people colliding with you don't do damage.
Title: Re: Patching PC Engine Games for Infinite Lives
Post by: Retro-Nerd on November 05, 2013, 03:52 PM
It's fine, you did enough invincible patches for me. Bloody Wolf was on me infinite Energy List anyway, since it has hitpoints. As you said, probably easy enough to patch like infinite lifes.  :)

Infinite Energy request list:

Energy bars or more than one hit points
--------------------------------------------------

Mr. Heli
New Adventure Island
Bikkuriman World (J) [T+Eng1.00_DemiForce]
Bloody Wolf
Override
Ninja Spirit (Arcade is one-hit, PC-Engine Mode 5 hits)
Magical Chase (U)
Dragon's Curse
Title: Re: Patching PC Engine Games for Infinite Lives
Post by: Kyle on November 06, 2013, 01:14 PM
Added all of those ;)

Bikkuriman World (J) [T+Eng1.00_DemiForce] - This game stores energy in some really weird way. I spent forever trying to figure it out. I made it infinite potions which refills your health when it runs out.
Bloody Wolf - Can still die with some bosses
Dragon's Curse
Magical Chase (U) - Identical to J
Mr. Heli - Walls can still kill you. Combine with infinite lives
New Adventure Island - This should probably be invincible
Ninja Spirit (Arcade is one-hit, PC-Engine Mode 5 hits) - Uses same code for both
Override

Edit - Added New Adventure Island invincible. Please try this one out. Took me a good while to get

Great stuff, Kyle. I will try all patches soon. Many thanks, once again.  :D

edit: Looks pretty good so far. Two things:

1. Could you please add the "keep weapons" stuff to Dragon Saber, or that you can keep at least the 3 dragon heads/different dragon forms after a hit? Just like for Dragon Spirit
2. The Legendary Axe patch for Infinite Energy works fine, but as expected the bonus counter at the end of any level never stops. It's Ok.

edit2: Infinite Energy for Blue Blink/Aoi Blink (t+eng) would be nice.  :)

Thanks, both patches works fine. Have to check later if there any good games left. I've asked a few years ago in the Magic Engine forum for the possibility to patch CD games via IPS. Nobody seemed interested. Is it harder to patch these games, i mean compared with your Rom patches? There are great games like Dracula X, Spriggan, Gate of Thunder etc.

Jagu called. He said you'll need a FAQ for the Pits of Madness.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/tg16/589017-the-legendary-axe/faqs/5714

I got Legendary Axe going. It took a couple of hours of trying different things. There is code that decreases your energy, and another for when you hit 0. I stopped this so now it rolls back to 99 after 0. This made the energy bar wig out pretty bad. I fixed this. It does it again later in the game but it doesn't prevent the game from being completed at all. I played it all the way through on hardware.

I won't be doing CD games, sorry. Feel free to suggest other PCE games.

Youkai Douchuuki = Energy
Ghost Manor = Lifes+Energy
Die Hard = Energy

Cool that is no big deal. How do you get MP in that game? I played it for a little while and didnt see it increase.

Yeah I have a core grafx ii that had jail bars. It was supposed to just be connect a couple of caps to ground. When i booted the system up it flickered and lost power/won't turn back on. I reversed it and the system is still dead. I was pissed.

If you can think of more games you want that's fine.

Street Fighter II Champion Edition (energy)

Thanks for sharing all these patches.  That's an impressive amount of work.

I have one big request though:  Can you go ahead and specify for each game, whether or not the patch is for a rom with a header?  As it is, they're all mix and match, so I have to apply a patch, test it, add or remove a header and then try again.
Title: Re: Patching PC Engine Games for Infinite Lives
Post by: Kyle on November 10, 2013, 10:48 PM
Sorry I wasn't aware of that. I downloaded a PC Engine Goodset and am pulling roms from it. If you want to make it easier on yourself you could do the same. It is not very large.

New stuff is up. Street Fighter is not a good fit. Both chars use the same code for energy.

Cadash (U) from Goodset doesn't work with Mednafen. Have to use Cadash (usa) instead. It also uses different values for memory.

My weird ocd thought process is that I can do them better now. I had a pretty standard way of doing SMS games that didn't work with PCE. On PCE I had to learn more about assembly and understand how the game's code works. Long story short it makes me want to redo a bunch of my SMS codes. I'll do your requests first.

I've been asked for CD patches before. I hadn't really tried it due to lack of interest. Apparently the process is the same but it's more time consuming. I also don't have the games or a PCE CDROM for that matter.

Cool. Doesn't work with the Japan version of LoT. The game doesn't start after the intro in Magic Engine. I will grab the US version then. I assume your CD images are in bin/cue format?

edit: Mmh doesn't start with a patched US version neither. I've created an ISO+WAV rip with TurboRip. Then the game starts, but the patch doesn't work here. No infinite energy. I got the US version from mondemul.  :-[
edit2: Ok, will try this exact Darkwater version now.
edit3: Just tried this version. No luck. The patched game still stops with a black screen after i've pressed the start button at the intro. Happens with the Magic System, and real System cards in Magic Engine (v1.1.3), also in the current Ootake.

Gah. Sorry that is so much trouble. Do me a favor and try this:

MagicDisc for mounting images for MagicEngine. This was the only virtual drive application I found that worked and wasn't garbage/spyware:

Grab HxD portable for hex editor:

Open your bin/iso whatever in HxD
Click Search/Find
Change the Datatype to hex
Search for 8d85263a102d
Change the 8D to AD
Click File, Save

Remount the image and try again

Looks good in Emulation. Will try it now on real hardware. btw: you can still post the ppf patches. Should work too. btw2: There is a nice English patch (http://home.comcast.net/~heavyweights/games/drac/index.htm) for the game (text, some speech. The intro is still German but with a the better speaker from the PSP version. ) :)

I played through the entire game with no issues.

Confirmed on real hardware.  :)

Awesome. I'll check that out. I watched the cutscenes with no clue what was going on. Glad to hear it works on hardware.

Do you want a good tutorial for this stuff? I was thinking of putting one together.

Groovy. I think the key is that I'm changing as little code as possible to achieve the effect versus a trainer etc.

I added a new patch for Night Creatures. It stops the decrease of health when you transform and also in water. This game doesn't seem enjoyable at all. Apparently it is known for being difficult.
Title: Re: Patching PC Engine Games for Infinite Lives
Post by: Retro-Nerd on November 17, 2013, 09:53 PM
Night Creatures looks and plays like a homebrew game. Most of the US exklusive games sucks, i.e. Ghost Manor. Just noticed that Cadash (U) freezes in the first cave, always reproducible at the point with the 2 platforms and the waterfall.

edit: If you want to train more CD games:  ;)

Last Alert (US version of Red Alert) = energy
Seirei Senshi Spriggan (the first game, Spriggan 2 isn't that good) = lifes

It works fine in emulation. But this is the first modified CD Image i can't burn with any programme (bad cd, wrong parameter etc errors). I can't even create a new image if i mount & copy it. Strange, the unpatched game is burnable.

edit: OK, created an ISO+WAV with TurboRip and then modified the value in the Track 2 ISO file, now i can burn it. Will report if it's fully working or not (real hardware).
edit2: Worked that way. It's a long but funny soldier game. I like the crappy US synchro. Completed on real hardware.

If your are not annoyed, some more suggestions:  :)

Sylphia = energy+lifes
Psychic Storm =  energy
Ai Cho Aniki = energy+lifes

Title: Re: Patching PC Engine Games for Infinite Lives
Post by: Kyle on November 19, 2013, 12:13 PM
Ai Chou Aniki doesn't lend well to my method. It reuses huge blocks of code that are larger what than what is visible without scrolling on my laptop. There are also 17 instances of the 'decrease lives' code in the game. I would try this for lives:

Find and replace all instances:

I am getting a little tired of CD titles. They are much more time consuming than hucards.

No problem then. You already did enough CD classics. Thanks for the new patches. Will try them soon.  :)

edit: Sylphia and Ai Chou Aniki looks good. The infinite energy cheat for Psychic Storm though works only for Level 1.
Title: Re: Patching PC Engine Games for Infinite Lives
Post by: Kyle on November 19, 2013, 06:03 PM
Good deal. I'll fix that later today. I would say the cd games take me an hour or so on average when a hucard game can be 10 minutes. They reuse code a lot which doesnt really happen on hucards. Like you wont die a different way per level.

What annoys me: The lob in Final Match Tennis is mapped to the "Run" button. Would love to see this mapped to the third button of the PC-Engine pad. But i guess this hack needs a deep knowledge of game code.

Kyle,
Thank you so much for this work. It's greatly appreciated. I do however have a question. How do I use these codes with GGG? Like I know how to do everything with GGG when doing say an NES or GB game, but I am sort of confused how to use pce games with GGG. Could you possibly do a step by step diagram or something so I can figure out how to do it properly as I am not quite sure what I am doing.

Thank you kindly,
BaNd1t

PS Would VisitntX's codes be used in the same process way or no?

Open PCECodes.txt and paste them to GGGuy. You can't use random codes from internet on SMS or PCE. So say you want Air Zonk:

Air Zonk (USA)
Infinite Lives (20B2)
295B:A5

Open the rom with the same name and paste 295B:A5 as the code.

Ha.I saw a video on it I don't believe it requires invincibility because you have hit points another words health.if  you or nobody tried it I heard it's a great game.I'm getting really excited because I'm about to buy a house that has a finished room downstairs for my retro systemsand retro gaming collection.these flashcards are very exciting it's going to allow me to play systems and ROMs I've never played before just awesome!!I only wish I lived closer to some of you on here that share the same interest and passions for old games as I do. most of the newer generation just wants call of duty ha! Gokuraku! Chuuka Taisen - Any chance of an invincible patch or no power down on death?
Thanks for your time :)

Thanks for your time :)

Here's something at least.

Open the ROM (I used the good set version named Gokuraku! Chuuka Taisen (J).pce) in a hex editor and search for the string:
ad1022f038
Replace the final two characters (38) with 00.

You won't die from taking damage, the game will instead pause.
This is using a hidden developer's option I discovered a while back:

Nice one, will give it go :)

edit: works a treat!
A 'boss mode' would be great too minus the invincibility, love the designs!

Here's the first codes I've had time to make so far:
Code: [Select]

Sound Test Room
Note: Press Right on the Title Screen.

gojira54, I'll get on those request when I get some free time.
Over the weekend my hard drive finally kicked the bucket, was having problems here and there for the past couple of months.
It ran for 5 years straight, running 24/7 so I'm not mad :-)

Just finished installing Windows 7, downloading all the patches to the OS and am in the process of getting my programs back.
Installed Ootake, MESS and Hex Workshop and only had time to get one of the codes made so far:

Damn, sorry about that.
That's why I wanted to test it on hardware, the standard types of code was not working (because all enemies were invulnerable).

I just tried again and didn't have any luck :-(

Really sorry about that Retro-Nerd.
I only tested it for an extremely short period of time, like usual.

Is there a way you can test if it glitches at the same spot without the hack enabled (not sure if the game saves or whatnot)?
If not, and without looking at the game so far, I would suggest changing the value of 50 to 80.
Or if all else fails change the 50 to D0, but there might be periods of time where you will be able to take damage.
If nothing else works I could at least make an infinite lives code or something.
And just to confirm, you were using the USA release of the game instead of Japanese, right?

ok so you can't combine codes into the same file correct? So for example unlimited Energy + Lives for Ninja Gaiden, when playing I was taking hit points, but seems to work if I only patch one cheat. Does that sound right?

Yeah, use a hex editor.
I prefer that method so it won't matter if you use No-Intro ROMs, the crappy 'good' set, or random ROMs.

I use Ootake + Cheat Engine to make RAM codes (if they don't already exist on GameHacking.org).
And I use MESS to debug the RAM address.

How hard is it to program a pre game menu I have seen with some games where you can select the cheats?

That would be cool to have that for these games and option to turn in specific cheats before the game loads.

Regardless this is great to play on original hardware but have things like unlimited lives.

You're talking about trainers.

I'm no programmer, so that's way beyond my current capabilities.

Yes that's it, all good just wondering how hard it is for people to code that.

I gotta start hex editing all these codes you made this is awesome.

Kyle did a Silent Debugger cheat but I'm not sure how to make this one work:

"Silent debuggers
Use Game Genie Guy:
http://srktt.com/files/GGGuy.zip
Open Silent Debuggers (USA).pce

Infinite battery is:
32D1:B5"

Is there a way to just hex edit that code?

It looks like you just use 'Go To (hex) Address' instead of search, replace the 95 at address 32D1 with B5.

I'm having difficulty getting the IPS patches to work. I downloaded the pack from the OP, but when I double click on a patch (Splatterhouse infinite live s as an example), the rom is not showing up as a supported file-type to patch (it's not visible even though I dropped it into the same folder). Are .pce roms not supported, or am I missing something in the patching process?

Likely any free hex editor will work...(but I personally use Hex Workshop).

HxD is a popular free hex editor.
http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/

With HxD, just use Ctrl+F to open the Find box, and change the Datatype to Hex-values.

I'm having difficulty getting the IPS patches to work. In the File name box, type *.*
Or just use the box like the image below:

I'm having difficulty getting the Download- Infinite energy patch to work. Am I correct in understanding that "infinite energy" means invincibility? If it is, for some reason the patch doesn't seem to have that effect in game for me; am I missing something?

*EDIT: Apparently none of the IPS patches are working for me; I'm using the latest version of Lunar IPS, as well as ROMS from the No-Intro set. I used some of the Master System IPS patches with the No Intro set, and it worked fine so I don't get it... I'm particularly interested in the Splatterhouse cheats, and the Download cheat. Any insight would be appreciated!

Finally got MESS working to make hacks.
That'll eliminate problems such as flashing when invincible and not being able to pick up items etc.

Should be many more codes coming...if I can keep interest.
I would like to focus on invulnerability codes at the moment, but request are welcome.

Hi,

Excellent work for the previous codes.

Can you please create invincibilty hacks for the following games?
*Kyuukyoku Tiger
*Kiki Kaikai

The current hack for both games stops the music playing and prevents pick up of weapons.

Kind Regards,

I've been using your program for a while now and I have to say that I absolutely love it.  I realy appreciate the work you put into it.  I've been using it mostly with my Turbo Everdrive.  I can't wait to get the Master System ED.  There are several SMS games that I know I will never beat without cheating, and this will probably be my only chance to do so.

Thanks again.  ;D

Pretty please could someone sort out a hack for this or JP R-Type II?

Supergrafx - Ghouls 'n Ghosts!
invincible: FFCB58:01 #]

{ -, 1, 0, 1, 0xF82AE8, 20, "Invincible" }

I for the life of me cannot get these IPS patches to work with these ROMs.I don't know what the problem i. I know the game genie guy works because I've used it with Sega Master System roms. I am using patched sms ROMs for my Raspberry Pi to play on retropie and I'm having no issues with it. I tried getting ahold of Kyle the maker of the program to findi out what the issue is.  I would like to know if anybody has used patch ROMs on their Raspberry Pi emulation console . I just find it hard to believe that none of these IPS patches seem to be working.I also would like specific details on what ROMs are needed for these to work. I've used non intro and the good set they both don't seem to be working with ips patches. I want to point out when I say they don't work I mean the games load but when I put IPS patches in obviously the cheats aren't working. I know it has to be something on my end I'm probably not doing because other people seem to be doing just fine with them. I just patched a bunch of Sega Master System ROMs and they all are working on the Raspberry Pi and also on my flash cart. If anyone on here doesn't feel comfortable about telling ROM information that's cool I completely understand I'm just trying to figure this out because as of right now I'm going to assume it's not working with turbo graphics PC engine ROMs im using. I want to thank anyone that can help me out or give me some advice

Man, those hex editor codes for the PC-E CD games are awesome! Thank you so much!!

If possible, would you be able to find the same type of hacks for the following:

Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire - Infinite Energy/Invincibility
Valis -  Legend of a Fantasm Soldier- Infinte Energy/Invincibility

And, I know a code was created for Infinite Energy in Akumajou Dracula X, but would it be possible to create an Invincibility code for it?

Hi couponescc1986.

As it would be too time consuming to go through the hassle of inputting the entirety of each game, and lets face it finding the equivalent of the TurboGrafx16 games provided being the alternative PC Engine counterparts a good while.

I will do you one better and give you the entirety of the set patched by myself... keep in mind though that the lack of titles being fully displayed (If any do happen to) in the roms is due to the limit of my Super Card SD having a maximum amount of text that could be displayed on the screen before being cut off. You can by all means rename them back as you please and hope this becomes of use for you - Richard

Seconding this request.  :)

I found these on various forums, but have no idea how this would apply to the Turbo Everdrive:

Quote

invincible: FFCB58:01 #]

{ -, 1, 0, 1, 0xF82AE8, 20, "Invincible" }
{ -, 1, 0, 1, 0xF82B5A, 3, "Have Gold Armor" }

R A 1 L 0 001f0b58 01 NEVER LOSE ARMOR

Re-added back up on Sendspace should last for a while longer, need the TG16 variant of hacks instead of the matched up PC Engine ones provided below? I would need a way to get PCEAdvance working... info on my findings below to make this possible.

Sendspace link of patched games - https://www.sendspace.com/file/s28my8

A Useful guide on what each game would be to your memory on TG-16 - https://www.sendspace.com/file/oymzgv

Findings on a way to see if TG-16 games can run on a GBA meaning TG-16 hacks can come - http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=8889.0

Side note: In the "Same Game Different Name" text document provided I really stopped checking each game after "Dragon Egg" which is why the last remaining effects on what each games hack gives was really rushed... such as R-Type that said Infinite Lives when it should have said Invincibility (Which also had a weird history as it was patched via the Taisang rom as others crashed or froze midway hence the No Intro). Originally it was hard enough finding the equivalent of each game on gamefaqs but in the future I'll likely redo what Infinite Energy is because to me if you go through stuff it was known as "Invincibility" and Infinite health is where you can still get hit and flicker but take no damage.

Just breezed through R-Type on the PC Engine with hacks I received this mission code DHL-9779-NJ it was with the Taisang version but it should work just as good with the normal Japan one (No idea why these exist though) anyways as you know if after downloading my pre-patched PCE folder there was no hack for R-Type Part-2 infact it doesen't even exist on gamefaqs so I decided to make a quick summery of how it works... hope this is of use to those who want to try and complete the 2nd hard part which by default gives you no boosts or power ups at all at the start (The TG-16 one apparently merges both parts into one so this code cannot be used sadly though thankfully the extra credits sourced from gamefaqs can work on that game instead)

R-Type Part-2 - At the title screen press Run and Select together then enter DHL-9779-NJ as a mission code, you will start with the best version of maxed out weapons (Red and Blue beam and Red and Blue shield lasers, two shields and missiles carried over from my pre made hack of the Taisang R-Type with the intro removed) but your speed will remain defaulted at the slowest till the S items are collected but thankfully due to the beam it will 1 shot kill most enemies but still be carful on the long worm enemies in stage 5 at the start also keep in mind if you get hit you loose everything until resetting and entering the password again! Happy gaming everyone ^^

Interesting Tip: While going through the enemy's barrage of attacks a lot of the time thanks to the front weapon and the two shields you can just fly into the enemy fire (Am not sure on the ones that shoot lasers at you) also when facing the boss do not change your weapon type as for some reason the beam breaks through the bubbles so quick on the 1st boss (Especially with turbo fire on) that it just runs away before you even kill it xD

Interesting Tip 2: The Taisang rom of R-Type Part-2 with the above code will always give the player speed ups instead of power ups, if used on the official R-Type Part-2 that doesen't say Taisang it gives the player power ups preventing the player reaching max speed of S item collectables... I guess they did this to make the game easier or was it something else???

*Of course the above could just be RNG of what item you get but it seems a lot more common on the Taisang version at least to me*

Lastly just expect the odd typos of NTSC RUN instead of PUSH RUN BUTTON at the continue screen (At least on the Taisang version which may be why it's different am not sure if it's an official HUCARD or not)
