Title: Zelda OOT Proto Fundraiser
Post by: Paulweeze on October 09, 2014, 08:37 PM
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Zelda-Ocarina-of-Time-Nintendo-64-N64-Prototype-Debug-Gamecube-PAL-Version-/301339391078?pt=UK_PC_Video_Games_Video_Games_JS&hash=item46293a3466#ht_2233wt_1190

To explain, Bobo Mcloud and I are trying to get a hold of this cart and release the rom so it doesnt get stuck in collector's hands. This is a one in a lifetime oppurtunity to be able to contribute to the gaming scene. As for how this will be held...
-people willing to contribute should state how much they can throw down (in their currency, ex. USD, Euros, ect.)
-dontations will be collected ONLY if we win the cart
-donations will be made via paypal to Bobo's account (he is main contributer)
-cart obviously will go to highest contributer
-rom will be given to contributers BEFORE going public
-user names will be attributed to the release (you will be known as the "ones who made this possible")
Every dollar matters. We might be around $1340 short so if 27 people contributed $50, we could afford to get this. We have a little over 2 days left and I know this is a longshot (pun intended :D) but it is totally worth it.

Contributers:
Bobo Mcloud ($3000 USD)
Paulweeze ($400 USD)
Craigaaron (£100)
Mockylock ($60 USD)
Catastrophic ($50 USD)

Dang man, I wish I had seen this earlier but I just committed to $250+ of arcade hardware, which more than eats my self-set allowance for the month.

Good luck though, you're doing god's work ;)

9999GBP(16000$). Goddamn that's a lot of fucking money. It will take a lot of donators to reach that amount. If we do actually get there, I'm ready to shelf out 50$.

Yea, the buy it now price is ridiculous, but is a good way to have other collectors compete for the prize. Adding you to the list, thanks dude!
On the other hand, only 1 offer is pending on the item. If we explain our situation (if that one gets declined), we might have the ability to get it! That is if he really wants to contribute to the scene as well.

I'm in contact with the owner and I think I have room to negotiate, don't get discouraged by the buy it now price, remember the original bin price was $100,000!
I remain confident if we can get close to $1000 more it will be ours :)

Might be worth posting on forums more geared towards this kind of activity, would get more attention on places like Assemblergames and Nintendoage.

Good question. From last I heard, Bobo was negotiating price with the owner of the cart. Im still holding my funds just in case it picks back up. Ill try to get ahold of Bobo.

I'm part of assembler games. Although that may not be the best place for this particular cart. It all started when I was impatient about getting it leaked (search "possible ocarina of time debug cart on ebay" on assembler games)then the topic got locked after an unnecessary debate. Luckily, I was too involved on other things (thank goodness) to be part of the argument, but I think the debate wouldn't happen if I wasn't so impatient.

Hey guys, so I have good and bad news, I've ended up forking out the extra cash and successfully purchased the Zelda debug prototype.
The final purchase price was $5,350.
Now the bad news.
My wife is VERY unhappy with my splash out and is demanding that either I sell it off straight away or recoup most of the money back.
as hextendo mentioned, that cart has been quite an unpopular topic due to the way the seller went about a few things.
This is absolutely killing me because I'm so close to properly owning this but not if it means ruining my marriage.

Soooo... This means we need to raise $3000, I personally don't feel comfortable asking ppeople to donate so much and I don't think it is at all possible to raise that much so I'm guessing that corners me into a sale :(
Sorry guys looks like a dead end.

Sorry but i can't offer more than the 60$ i offered.
At least, even if you have to sell it again, you could study this prototype, and even dump it (i'm not at all interested particularly in the dump itself, it was just to try to comfort you).

Thanks for the gesture, Damn women always raining on my parade!

Damn, sorry to hear about that. Unfortunatly, I only have the 400 to spare (might be able to get more later, but I have a few other expensies atm). That and if you release the dump, the price of that proto will drop so this is a sticky situation. Let us know what works best for you, for as you said, its not worth ruining a marriage.

This is why you sell it first, then release the dump later, perhaps anonymously ;)

Seriously though, good luck. I hope it works out.

I personally suggest that you dump the rom, resell the prototype for whatever you can(even if it's not as much as 5k) and then accept whatever donations you can. We all agreed to put at least something towards this and I don't plan on going back on that.

He doesnt have to worry about dumping it, for the winner recieves the rom as well. Let us know what course of action you wanna take.

So, basically, he can upload THE SAME EXACT ROM as the cartridge version? PLEASE UPLOAD it! I know, I have NOT learned my lesson, but this forum seems A LOT MORE CALM than what I experienced at assemblergames. Plus, I wanted to test it on my ED64 since I looked up if there's any MORE prototypes besides That debug rom. Finally, I looked ALL OVER NESWORLD, but I can't find the download link.

Everyone ELSE is CALM but I WONDER about SOME PEOPLE sometimes ::)

Besides, the rom is his to do with as he pleases, I assume. If he shares it, he shares it. If not, then he doesn't.

Really sorry guys but I ended up selling the cart to another collector, I did let him know that you all are very interested in the releasing of the Rom so I hope that he decides to release it to you all. I did receive a Rom of the game but I couldn't get it to work, not sure if it was dumped properly :(

Hey guys. Sorry to necro such an old post, but here is this ROM. :)

https://archive.org/details/ZELOOTD

The Zelda 64 Reverse Engineering Team has generously been gifted by an anonymous donor a different debug build of OOT. This build of the ROM is mostly identical to the existing debug rom and it is also PAL EU, but does not include the master quest maps. It instead has the retail N64 maps. This is the same ROM on the cart in question.
