Title: SG-1000 support on EverDrive-GG with OS v8

After an embarrassingly long delay, I've finally gotten an EverDrive-GG (in addition to my EDs for Genesis, SNES, and Game Boy).

However, I was dismayed to learn that SG-1000 palette support -- which was one of my main reasons for buying the EverDrive-GG, and which Krikzz added back in 2012 (http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?30975-everdrive-for-SMS-and-GameGear&p=557155&viewfull=1#post557155) -- appears to have been disabled with OS v6. All the SG-1000 games I've tried are unplayable messes of black and purple.

What's the deal with that? Is there any workaround? And can I downgrade to OS v5 without any negative consequences?

I dont think there would be any consequences downgrading to os v5 but fat32 and sdhc cards dont work on the old os so keep that in mind. That and the newest update on the EDGG says os v8 and that aint available to download (unless v7-beta is v8) so you might want to downgrade permanently if you are downgrading at all. If going that route, put the os on the sd card and run it like any other rom. Idk why sg1000 support was dropped as well since the master everdrive can play them no problem and it used to work on old os's.

Thanks for that quick reply & information. I don't know why I had it in my head that I had OS v6, but I just checked and it's OS v8 (which makes sense since I just bought this from Stone Age Gamer last month). My mistake on that.

Since the downgrade would have to be permanent, maybe I should contact Krikzz directly and ask whether it'd be possible to restore the SG-1000 palette setup first?

EDIT: I've emailed Krikzz at the tech support address.

sg-1000 playble on on master system, as i can remember, but not on gamegear

(Linking to Google Cache since AssemblerGames seems to be down; see posts #199 and #200 at the bottom of the page. Or I'll just post the quote: "in lastest os i implemented palette init for sg1000, now sg1000 games works fine on gg")

The changelog for OS v5 (http://krikzz.com/pub/support/ms-everdrive/os-bin/chagelist.txt) even mentions it:

"v5
14.12.2011
1)palette initialisation for sg1000 games (gamegear)"

So it certainly looks like it used to be in there! Any idea why it disappeared between OS v5 and v8?

I don't remember, to be honest. I completely forget details about work over sms/gg due the time and low intensity of work over this project. It was so many time ago...

May be because i did not make palette initialization for game gear. OS7-8 were made from zero, so, may be i lose something.

I understand, KRIKzz -- you've got a lot of projects to worry about, and the SMS/Game Gear is one of the least active. Still, if there's any chance you could restore palette initialization in OS v9, that'd be great and really appreciated.

The SMS doesn't need it -- AFAIK, the colors are hardcoded by the SMS VDP and can't be changed, and the games are at least playable. So it only applies to the Game Gear, where SG-1000 games are literally unplayable since you can't see anything.

Do you need a color chart or anything? There's a page by Chris Covell about what he did to set up the SG-1000 palette for the Tototek flash cart. (http://www.chrismcovell.com/segahacking/gearmasterhack.html)

KRIKzz, just chiming in as another GG Everdrive lover that would greatly appreciate some SG-1000 support!  I rave about this flashcart and have another friend that is interested in buying one soon.  Honestly, I don't know why GG gets so little love.  And this flashcart has been a dream to have in my collection :D

Also, if you get around to it in the next OS (I know you are really busy), here is a list of some games that don't seem to work yet on OS7:

Gunstar Heroes (GG)
Rastan Saga (GG)
Predator 2 (GG)
Chase HQ (GG)
Megumi Rescue (bad dump, player doesn't control correctly)
Outrun Europa (GG)

There appears to be an issue with some SMS>GG conversions that were done for the GG.  Also, without a proper PAL hack games like New Zealand Story and others have graphics glitches.

My guess is that it won't be fixed on the current everdrive.  I'm thinking if he releases a new version of it he'll write new a OS for it.  With maybe fixes for all current issues.  I can't speak for krikzz but I can only hope.  I love the ed for gg but I would rather have a better version of it someday.

KRIKzz, could we see some movement on this? Those of us who bought the cart would love to finally have SG-1000 compatibility restored.

Krikzz, I would love to see SG-1000 support restored.  I just got my EDGG today and love it, but it has some flaws that my other EDs don't have.

I second that.

It would be very nice to have it restored. Even the majority of  Everdrive users may not use the GG version but SG-1000 support and Gunstar Heroes (GG) support would be very nice for us...

I also would like proper SG-1000 support to return to the Everdrive GG. It is a major reasons I bought the flash cart in the first place.

However the problem is much more closer to the moment when it will be solved.
We have a lot of work with much more popular (in times) devices.
Everything depends only on when KRIKzz will have time for that.
Unfortunately I don't have any estimates concerning that.
But as I previously said he knows about that.

yes, sms and gg share same os, but sms worked fine with previous version of os also, because master system does not require palette initialization for sg1000 games

Tested many sg-1000 games, works dang good!  Few have bad palettes like Wonder Boy or Zaxxon.

PS: Mr. Krikzz, would you be interested in a good/bad listing of the palettes game by game?  I could probably make one up.

Not sure if possible to fix them, but i would look on list of games with bad palettes
