Title: USB Tool on GNU/Linux?
Post by: iwasaperson on April 26, 2016, 02:16 AM
I just soldered a mini USB port on my ED and the FT245RL is on the way from China. Will the USB tool work with Mono, or does it need to be recoded entirely to work on GNU/Linux? Any special drivers I need other than the FTDI library from my repo (on Debian)?

Also, the USB cable fits perfectly in my front loader NES with the cartridge pushed down, so I don't know why the page says it will only work on a toploader.

I've compiled it with Mono; source code is unmodified from Krikzz's original:

You will need to install at least the Mono runtime in order to run it. No special drivers were needed for me. As far as I know it communicates like a regular USB-connected serial port.

It works in my front loader NES. If I try very hard, I can plug in a cable while the cart is down. My USB port install may not be perfect, as I installed the FR245RL and USB port myself.
