What the heck are you still doing here? Check out the new thread which will be continued! Link: http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=7094.msg54924#msg54924

Hello and welcome to the Rom Hack Compatibility Thread! The purpose of this thread is to test and document which Rom hacks work on a real N64 console via an Everdrive 64 and which ones don't. This thread will attempt to cover every single Rom hack that exists for the N64 so that people can hop on and easily figure out which hacks will work without going through the process of testing each and everyone one, I'm doing that for you! With this list you will see which ones do or don't work, which ones have issues and if they do have issues you will see what the problem(s) are per Rom. Keep in mind that because this is a solo project I can't even begin to cover everything at once, if you find a problem that I missed or have information I don't have please feel free to let me know below and I'll add your finding to the list until I can test it myself. This thread is still highly a work in progress and work will be continued over time, any day that I make changes, no matter how small, will be noted both below in the change log and in the "Updated on" section in the title. Also keep in mind that this thread was created with the PC in mind so some elements of the web page me be a little off on mobile, mostly the banners. With all that said I hope people can use this as a tool to enhance their ED64 experience and will continue to do so for the entire existence of the ED64. Thanks and happy hacking!

Here are some hacks I tested. Note that most of these were simple one throughs.
Banjo Kazooie:
Banjo Threeie: Works, but found issues with collision detection on the first level besides the hub world you see, specifically when trying to get the puzzle piece above the blue ceiling, which is above the start pad. May be a problem with the editor though, not real hardware.
Banjo's Bad Feather Day: No issues so far.
Zelda oot debug:
Nightmare Mod: Crashes when trying to access Shadow Temple, though. Other than that, no real problems.
Debug fix (specifically, the one from the goodn64 3.27 Romset that has 27 fixes and is version 3.5) Works, Only version to access room 125 (Hyrule Garden Game 2) without crashing. However, there are SEVERE graphical issues with the pause menu.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out once I finish the GE/PD/SM64 side of things.

Alrighty, I'll mark it on the list and give it a go on my end.

Great, I'll start the Banjo-Kazooie part of the list once I get more of the other three games done.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I wasn't even considering doing Zelda or Banjo-Kazooie as I thought maybe one or two hacks was available but I can see now that they are just as important as the rest. Going to be doing a ton of testing today on all fronts so we should see a more colorful menu by the end of the day!

Just finished testing all of the Goldeneye Solo rom hacks, I may poke around in a few of the problematic ones to see if I can find any temporary fixes but for now the list is final. If you are the creator of any of these hacks with issues please contact me if you fix them in the future so I can test the newest versions and update the list.

The rest of the week will be spent on the multiplayer side of the Goldeneye hacks and then I'll move onto the few in Perfect Dark! Please feel free to leave comments and if I made any mistakes in the list please correct me so I can update the list!

Thanks and have fun!

Not a problem man, glad you found it helpful and I'll continue to work on it!

On another note I'd like to add that I'm going to be including download links below each game where anyone can download either individual ROMs or download one big zip with everything included! This will be added once I complete the current list and will be hosted by MEGA since I already have an account with them, this should be happening within a week or so from this post being made so watch out or that! I will also be contacting Krikzz once I complete the current list to see if he can sticky this thread so anyone can easily access which hacks work and which don't on the fly.

So I tried to add the rest of the Mario 64 ROM hacks to the list and I hit the character limit (20000), until I know that I won't hit a limit I won't continue this further as eventually I'll reach the end which will leave this looking messy and unfinished. I know that I could potentially use the three reserved posts beneath the main one but even doing that will make it look messy and unfinished, I will try and get into contact with Krikzz and ask him if he can help me out here. As for the list, it will be on hold until then.

Thanks Krikzz!

All Goldeneye 64 and Diddy Kong Racing hacks have been tested and the list has all the info needed for each hack whether it's Multiplayer or Singleplayer! My next goal is to work on the entire collection of Perfect Dark hacks and then I'll be moving onto Banjo-Kazooie, Ocarina of Time, and F-Zero since there aren't many hacks for those games. Once I get everything done I'll be moving onto the Super Mario 64 hacks list, progress will be slower as I want to fully make sure that each part of the game is tested however expect to see lots of red and orange in the list since most SM64 hacks are incompatible with the ED64.

Thanks for sticking with me on this project and once I get everything done except for SM64 I will be sending Krikzz a PM asking if this can be pinned. Until then I hope the current list is helping a ton of you to build your ED64 hack collection and check in as often as you can as the list is updated daily!

Thanks and happy 64'ing!

Hey all! Just thought I'd drop in and let everyone know that this isn't a dead project, after a long break I am back to working on the list. Expect Goldeneye and Perfect Dark to be caught up by the end of this weekend and hopefully I'll have a couple more banners done for the other games.

I also asked Krikzz if he could pin this so it doesn't get buried and he replied saying that it wasn't going to happen so I'll bump this every time a major change or event happens or it gets buried past the first page. I'd also like to note that I'll be sprucing up this thread so it doesn't look so messy and is actually appealing to look at. Things such as an intro for the thread, more banners and less text, and more so expect that down the line as well.

Thanks and happy hacking!
Title: Re: Rom Hack Compatibility Thread (Updated on 5/29/17) [New Poll 5/29]
Post by: The Renegadist on May 29, 2017, 12:45 PM
Howdy everyone, just dropped a bump here to let everyone know that Goldeneye and Perfect Dark have been finished all the way around as of 5/29/17. With that out of the way I'm moving on to finishing all the Super Mario 64 rom hacks, then Banjo-Kazooie, and finally I'll be starting on either Ocarina of Time or F-Zero's Rom hacks.

I've also thrown a poll at the top of the thread to see what the community thinks of getting this thread pinned if Krikzz were to allow it, as I mentioned before I've already asked him once in which he said he wouldn't do so but this was when the thread had just started and was still very unorganized/not as polished as it is now plus I only had a handful of hacks tested at the time. Hopefully I can go to him in the near future and not only show him a nicer and more polished thread but that the community (hopefully) wants to see this pinned as well!

As always feel free to leave comments, questions, and concerns below and if anyone has done testing in any of the Roms I haven't tested yet or have information that conflicts with mine, let me know so I can work on it!

Thanks guys and happy hacking!

Title: Re: [Closed] Rom Hack Compatibility Thread (Updated on 5/31/17)
Post by: The Renegadist on June 07, 2017, 07:16 PM
Hey all,  unfortunately this isn't another update post where I excitedly report that another set of Rom hacks have been finished. So after the last update on the Mario hacks I once again hit the character limit on the thread and messaged Krikzz to ask for the limit to be raised so I could finish, since then I've been waiting for his response so I could continue work on the SM64 hack list. Yesterday he got back to me and basically said to use my posts below the main one to continue the thread in which I replied stating that eventually I'd run out of room there and would need the character limit increased anyway and using the spaces below would break the flow of the thread and would look ugly in general. Last night he said he would not increase the limit anymore which means I cannot continue and thus I'm stopping work on this thread entirely.

As disappointed as I am in this there isn't much I can do, Krikzz has worked with me in the past to increase the limit so I can't say he hasn't helped me before but I can tell that this thread never had Krikzz blessing to begin with. Not only with the character limit but he also mentioned that having too many threads pinned would be an eye sore even though this WAS probably one of the most helpful threads in awhile but it's his show and he can run it how he likes.

Not much more to say, everything will be left as is but unless the limit is increased I won't be working on this any further. Sorry to those who were wanting me to finish, looks like I won't be doing that. This will be my last bump for this thread, whether or not the community sees it on the first page is up to you guys.

Thanks and happy hacking.

You know... limits exist for a reason.

Why break the database for one person? You should break up that giant wall of text into several posts, there's no reason it couldn't be broken up by game.
Title: Re: [Closed] Rom Hack Compatibility Thread (Updated on 5/31/17)
Post by: SmokeMonster on June 08, 2017, 08:07 AM
Since you have the first few posts reserved, why not just break it up a bit? I have done that on other forums where I hit character limits. I think it would still flow really nicely. As much as Krikzz might want to keep extending the limit, it might be putting a lot of stress on his server if threads started expanding too much. Please don't give up, this is a killer project! :D

And what then after those three posts hit the limit, this is my concern.
Title: Re: [Closed] Rom Hack Compatibility Thread (Updated on 5/31/17)
Post by: Kerr Avon on June 08, 2017, 03:57 PM
Please don't give up, mate - you're doing fantastic work with it. If space is a problem, then why not use this thread just for first person shooters, and make another for platform games, one for racing games (such as F-Zero X, Mario Kart 64, etc) and another for adventure type games (the two Zelda games, for example) and so on?

And if the threads themselves don't get stickied, then you can post their URLs in the stickied compatibility thread, or the stickied "Useful programs, tips, links, etc, for use with the Everdrive 64" thread, and people could find them via those links.

Please consider keeping to your project, as it's much too valuable to the community to be left to die. As it is, there's far too little information about the N64's hacks and mods available on the 'net, and you've done a lot to redress that imbalance.

That's the best alternative that someone has offered but then I'd have a really tiny thread with a link going to another website which is ugly and a waste of space and that's if I can find a site for what I want to do. Not only that but it takes away from the convenience ever so slightly and I won't be able to get direct feedback from the website or the feedback I will get is on here which is broken up from the main list.

I don't understand why the limit can't be raised more so then it is honestly, Smoke said that it might possibly put a strain on his server but 90% of the thread is text and Krikzz already raised the limit in the past anyhow. Honestly I don't see one negative to raising the limit other then someone might come on and abuse it but most of this community is laid back so if someone were to do that then that person could be punished.

I seriously appreciate it but the entire point of this thread was for people to have easy access to the list without going to a third-party site. If people want me to continue this (I'd like to continue this, myself) then message Krikzz about increasing the character limit otherwise this will remain as it is unfortunately.

I have to agree.  This seems like the sort of thing that would make more sense on a separate site.  Like micro-64.com is a separate site with good info on the ED64 from patches to the Aleck64 stuff.  It also has nice separate lists for various things on the games like CIC chip, save type, etc.  Forum posts get buried too easily, and sticky posts just bury more stuff quicker.

You'll have some good quality info that will look much better on its own site.  I might even consider posting things about the old "fix" roms.  After looking at the SSSV supposed "fix" roms, it looks like there might be a lot out there that are garbage, but some that are actually useful.  It would be good to know.

Well, I will be moving some things around when I get home. It won't fix the problem permanently but it will allow me a little more room for now.

Also, no one has given me a good reason as to why it's a bad thing to raise the character limit.
Title: Re: Rom Hack Compatibility Thread (Updated on 10/23/17)
Post by: The Renegadist on October 24, 2017, 05:10 AM
Alright, as a last resort I split the main post into three parts. Once I hit the character limit this time then that's it until Krikzz raises it, also noticed that Krikzz or some admin locked my poll. I had no idea this forum was so controlling, makes me not even want to be a part of it honestly.

Not asking for a whole lot here, doesn't have to be raised to a ridiculous amount. Just enough to finish the list and still have enough room to add a dozen or so ROM hacks once they are released though with the way things are going I doubt that will happen.

Anyhow, going to update the Goldeneye 64 and Perfect Dark categories as a few new ROM hacks have come out since I stopped working on this. After that I'll see how far I can get in the Super Mario 64 list before I hit the limit again.

Well, there it is. Splitting the original thread up into parts definitely helped out a little but I've hit the character limit once again. I will try one more time to contact Krikzz and ask for him to raise the limit but I doubt he will, thanks everyone for your support on this project and here's to hoping Krikzz will be willing to work with me on this.

Unless the limit is raised this will be the last time I work on the list.

Edit: Krikzz got back to me and gave me a resounding no, what a damn shame.
