Title: EDGB-X7 doesn't work on GBP
Post by: ieure on August 30, 2017, 10:19 PM
Just got my GB-X7 today, and it doesn't work in my Gameboy Pocket.  It boots up to a black rectangle, instead of the Nintendo logo.

I tried it in my Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance SP, and DMG, and it worked in all of them.  But it only gives me the black rectangle on the Pocket.  The original EDGB works fine in the Pocket, as well as original carts.

The EDGB-X7 is thicker than the EDGB, and it's a much snugger fit in the GBP than the other consoles.  i wonder if that's related to the problem.

Has anyone else seen this, or tried it in a GBP?

Put it in the GBP and turn it ON. Then, with the cartridge inserted, turn OFF and then turn ON again. Repeat this so many time as necessary.

This worked for me.

Greetings.

I can confirm that it comes up after cycling power 4-5 times.  Powering off requires going through this procedure again.  My other consoles boot it reliably every time.  Very strange that it only happens on Pockets.

I hope a fix is forthcoming.  GBP is my go-to for Gameboy titles, and this is not at all what I was expecting.

I have the pocket and I have the same problem but we have a very simply work around which takes seconds turn it on a off a few times and it works

Just to let everyone know if your connected via the ac adapter works no problem but when it's using  batteries you have to do the workaround but I'm happy doing that

Gameboy Pocket model has power consumption design flaw and make it worse uses AAA instead of AA batteries

this power consumption design flaw is fixed in Gameboy Light model and back using AA batteries

this issue was already discussed here: http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=6760.15

Could this be fixed in firmware?

oddly enough, the EDGBX7 works on my game boy pocket. Maybe I'm using Ultimate Lithium instead of Alkaline?

Likely. Because lithium batteries often help to fix the pocket's power flaw.

WHat rev is your egb x7. I hear Rev A has problems with the gameboy pocket. Rev B is the one you want cause it consumes less power i think it works better on the pocket. I guess just get a gameboy color or something if your worried or a advance or sp.
