Title: Bios list for the SD2SNES pro: is it complete?
Post by: legolas119 on November 19, 2019, 01:27 AM
Hi
i would like to buy the SD2SNES Pro cart and i downloaded here the latest firmware (with bios included) and I added the bios list present in the same page: https://stoneagegamer.com/sd2snes-resources.html#chips

After that, this is the list present in the folder (see the attached file). Is it complete in order to run every rom on the cart? Or do I need additional files?  I know that only these 5 games don't work:
ST-011 games:
Hayazashi Nidan Morita Shougi
ST-018 games:
Hayazashi Nidan Morita Shougi 2
SPC7110 games:
Far East of Eden Zero
Momotaro Dentetsu Happy
Super Power League 4

Is it possible to run games like Kaizou Choujin Schbibinman Zero that need BS-X bios?

thank you

Is this the file name of that bios?
BS-X BIOS (English) [No DRM] [2016 v1.3].sfc

Do I need to add st0010.bin and st0010.bin too?

thanks

BS-X BIOS (English) [No DRM] [2016 v1.3].sfc

perfect.

Sorry, typing error: i wanted to say:

Do I need to add st0010.bin and st0011.bin too?

st0010.bin is necessary. And what about st0011.bin?

thanks!

ST-011 is not supported and adding the rom does nothing. Same with ST-018.

I see you might be confused because there's an extra zero in "st0011.bin". I'm pretty sure it's the rom for the ST-011 co-processor though. The corresponding .rom file "st011.rom" does have only 3 zeroes (SD2SNES uses the .bin version of the rom though).

Depends on the game. THere are a number of BSX games that have patches to remove the requirement for BSX. It'll boot right into the game, and play like a regular rom.

Apparently there is an english translation for this out there already. But the developers who made it, are sitting on it for whatever reason.

Momo-dentetsu probably hangs on a RAM test screen because of the missing SPC7110 co-processor.

I don't know...this is my current updated sd2snes folder (attached). Do I have to delete st0011.bin file? In any case now i have all the supported bios files, correct?

thank you!

not bsxbios.bin.sfc

need be bsxbios.bin

Yes you have all used BIOS files plus the unused "st0011.bin". No need to delete it if you don't want to though (I have it on mine).
And yes it should be "bsxbios.bin" for whatever BS-X BIOS rom you want to use with Satellaview games.

I think the "no DRM" patch is a workaround for the limited boot count that some BS titles has. Each time you boot it will count down by one, so you can only play certain games 5 times or so. This count is probably saved in the save file for the game so I'd guess the count restarts if you delete that (the rom shouldn't be affected).
Any version should work though: Japanese original, Japanese no DRM, English original or English no DRM. You can use original if you want to see how it looks like when the count is 0 or something.

thanks guys.
Unfortunately i found only BS-X BIOS (English) [No DRM] [2016 v1.3].sfc and BS-X BIOS.smc

can I rename one of these 2 files in bsxbios.bin? In this way i change the file extension too...is it correct? Both files are 1024KB. Is it the right size of the bsxbios.bin file too?

thanks!

You can find the other roms by googling.

Yes when you decide which rom to use, make a copy of it and rename the copy to "bsxbios.bin" and put it in the SD card's SD2SNES folder.
Yes this includes changing the file extension. If Windows prompts you with a warning that you might not be able to use the file anymore, it's nothing to worry about. It's just in case you accidentally renamed a file that you don't want to rename. Renaming a file won't affect the content of the file or anything either.

Yes the rom should be exactly 1024 kbyte (1 048 576 byte), this doesn't change no matter what you name it to, so no worry.

ok, I rename my current firmware BS-X BIOS (English) [No DRM] [2016 v1.3].sfc (or BS-X BIOS.smc) to bsxbios.bin, i put it in sd2snes folder and that's all, in this way I will run BS-X games like Kaizou Choujin Schbibinman Zero. Perfect, thanks!

Last question: do you suggest SD2SNES or SD2SNES pro? The pro is more expensive but I dind't understood which are its advantages...?

SD2SNES Pro has big newer FPGA and Memory can load multi cores (ex. MSU1+SA1 or MSU1+FX) at once

None of those improvements are really taken advantage of yet though. The current pro doesn't do anything that the original doesn't, and it looks like people are just having problems with it at the moment. But these things will probably be sorted out with time.

I'm not convinced by the new save state system and all that about re-implementing the APU in the pro. I hope you will be able to turn that feature off when its implemented in case you want to use the APU in your SNES.

ah really? The Pro has more bugs than the standard version? I would like to buy the cart during these week but it is out of stock at stonenage gamer :(  Do you suggest to buy the standard version of the cart?

I will ask in the forum what users suggest to buy between Pro and standard...the standard is cheaper...

No I don't recommend the old version over the pro. I only have the old version so I can't give you any recommendations at all. But the old version is being phased out and the pro will take over, so if you don't have either of them and want the one with most potential and the most future-proof, probably the pro is the one to get.

It's just that as how it looks now, the pro might be a bit disappointing. And there are quite many bug reports which is why it looks to me that the pro has more problems. But as I said, these problems will probably be sorted out, the pro is still quite new so it's bound to have childhood diseases.

Momo-dentetsu probably hangs on a RAM test screen because of the missing SPC7110 co-processor.

Thank goodness it is that, for a second when I first tried it I thought my device had crashed my SNES... oh yeah I never experienced it or any other SA-1, SDD1 or SFX games running along with that text string when I updated to the latest SD2SNES firmware as of whatever reason they are all just black screens so I would need to go back two updates before in order to play those games and see that screen again.

sd2snes_firmware_v1.10.3 shows nothing of them

sd2snes_firmware_v1.9.0 showed them all working

Also good to know from the comments that region lock issue isn't just on my end as some other messages left it happening to others.
