I've compiled it with Mono; source code is unmodified from Krikzz's original:

You will need to install at least the Mono runtime in order to run it. No special drivers were needed for me. As far as I know it communicates like a regular USB-connected serial port.
It works in my front loader NES. If I try very hard, I can plug in a cable while the cart is down. My USB port install may not be perfect, as I installed the FR245RL and USB port myself.
