News / Re: EDN8 OS v20-BETA. Large update incoming
« on: September 19, 2018, 04:39 PM »
As far as I can tell, the latest beta's FDS audio is spot on with my AV Famicom, at least with VS Excitebike.

Well done.

James I'm not sure if I'm understanding your post correctly since English does not seem to be your first language, but the audio from Akumajou Densetsu while playing the actual cart is the same volume as any other game. It's only quieter when you're playing it with the N8.

BTW Krikzz, I'm happy that you've made some progress with the FDS audio, but it still has pitch issues. I'm aware that the FDS audio is inherently ever so slightly out of tune compared to the regular Famicom audio in a real FDS setup, but when you play VS Excitebike, for example, you'll begin to notice that the higher the note, the more out of tune it is. It's like for every incrementally higher note, the pitch issue gets increasingly worse. It's not how the FDS audio actually behaves at all.

I'll probably just end up getting a FDS Stick haha.

Seems as though the Star Fox 2 ROM from the SNES Mini Classic doesn't work. Black screen.

redguy you are a god among men. never thought I'd be able to play Star Fox 2 on real hardware, but here it is.

um. holy shit.

Fingers crossed that the FPGA can hold all the caches and such. If not, maybe a new rev is in order?

Krikzz already posted such information here concerning the datasheets and specifications.
Even our first very old products were safe. Our most recent devices have much more efficient design.
Do you have a working link for Krikzz's response? The link above no longer works. I'm interested in reading it. Thanks!

EverDrive N8 / Re: Konami VRC7 Mapper Support Package

Saying that the AV Famicom has audio balance issues is a gross oversimplification, later revisions of the original Famicom PCBs also have similar audio levels to the AV Famicom.  Sharp Famicoms are so nasty in their audio that they shouldn't be used to compare anything : http://en.nicovideo.geo.jp/?sm16346242
Yes, the balance issues inherent to those console models are significant and well documented, but said issues are constant when comparing between the cart and the EDN8, are they not?

The AV Fami does have a different 2A03/Expansion balance than the OG console, but what is being compared is the EDN8 vs the cart on the same console. The VRC6 75_70 mapper is super close to the Akumajou Densetsu cart. VRC7, not so much.

I could understand why this glitch would've gone unreported for all this time, because why would anyone in their right mind play the US version of Castlevania III on an Everdrive N8 when you can play the vastly superior Akumajou Densetsu?

Yeah the AVS is legit, so that makes two good clones.

the only problem with the avs is that is doesnt work with necronomfive's custom vrc7 mapper. Aside from that, its golden.
Oh damn, that's a bummer.

EverDrive N8 / Re: v16 update = blue screen?

The v16 RC1 update is working fine for me.. A common culprit is a fragmented SD card according to Krikzz. Format the SD card, load everything on to it again and give it another shot.

Nope. You're better off getting a RetroUSB AVS.
