Am I correct in saying that if the VRC7 and 5B mappers would have the same volume as VRC6's 100 setting, it would sound OK for us Original Famicom users?

As requested, here's Intro+Epitaph+Prayer+Beginning from Akumajou Densetsu recorded from a Famicom Family Famicom:!4NZliYLY!rj655cRqSyUJ6bkfL1O2a2kzcekYw7S3ogtZZxEL39A

I thinking about making special menu with dedicated audio gain settings for each audio mapper, this is probably the only right solution.

Yes please! That would be ideal. Current volume levels are almost useless for us using an original Famicom.

Thank you krikzz!

No more IO Errors for me.

My only problem is that VRC6-VRC7 and Sunsoft 5B expansion audio is way too low now, almost inaudible on an original Famicom. Is there a way to change the mappers volume levels?

As for the FDS sound, I too recommend to get a FDSStick.

IO error happens after game loading, or they can appears after cold boot, prior tan any games were loaded ?
If errors happens even after cold boot, then i need to know if something changes if 255.RBF will be replaced by file from OS v16

Also i would like to know size of used SD cards
Errors happen even after cold boot. Can't try replacing 244.RBF until tomorrow. SD Card size is 16GB

Krikzz, please keep VRC6 on 024.RBF so it can be updated or replaced without touching MAPROUT.BIN.
Like you kept 069 and 085 separate.

I have an even better idea. The audio setting HI and LO was removed. Why?
Why not making it even more sophisticated?
If there are so many versions of the platform why not implementing a selection menu to cycle through all possible NES variants.
The FPGA core could be either selected according to this configuration or a signal could be routed so the core can act on this configuration.
This would make the file switching obsolete.

Yes please. This feature is vital for Famicom users. You wouldn't even have to implement new cores, the different volume levels posted on the forum by Slamy and Necronomfive are perfect already.

Ok, i will check those games. May be you can provide ready to use "Gradius AC" rom? After quick search i found only patches
Thank you, but there's no need for you to look at it, it works now after defragmentation.

Listen to your Zelda recording. It is very clear that the notes go off pitch later in the song (from 0:29 to 0:47 in your recording), and the notes at the beginning don't seem to sustain for as long as the real hardware.

1. This conclusion after comparing left channel with right? Just not sure that you realize that on my record plays real fds and everdrive at same time (: I can't hear any differences between left and right channels, except little white noise from real fds channel

2. As for Slamy's mapper, i will integrate it in official release if i will have sources. Old rbf file can be used if maprout.bin will be edited like phoenixdownita described.

7. What is the "Gradius AC" it is some hack? I can't find such game in my library
Thank you!

1. It's hard to say if you listen to both channels at once, but there is definetely a difference. I have no musical training but the N8 emulation sounds really unpleasant, there's something wrong at the end of the notes.

2. Slamy is thankfully willing to provide source!

7. Gradius AC is an unlicensed cart/hack. After a defragmentation on my SD card, it works without any problems.

I'd also like to bring this little problem to your attention:;boardseen#new

And this regarding Death Race (it's a very rare, expensive game and it would be another great reason to own an N8):

Pease, if you reporting some bug, don't forget to describe:
1. cart version (fami or nes) and cpld ver
2. console version
3. any console mods, if they installed

1. Famicom N8 CPLD ver 2
2. Original Famicom, FamicomFamily version (1990)
3. Composite-out mod

1) Frequent Disk IO Errors, usually after a file is written to the SD on a freshly formatted SD card.
2) Gradius AC (Mapper 4 - MMC3) graphics are now broken. Just start a game and you'll see the powerup bar in the middle of the screen
3) MMC5 expansion audio doesn't work. Worked on v16.
4) VRC6 audio is worse than Slamy's VRC6 fix
5) Sunsoft 5B expansion audio almost inaudible.
6) As noted by others, FDS Expansion Audio is off compared to a genuine FDS on the same system.

Thank you!

Krikzz, I forgot to ask you to please integrate the VRC6 and Sunsoft Gimmick audio improvements posted on this very forum. This + Mapper 4 fix + MMC5 audio back to previous firmware levels would make the N8 the ultimate flashcart. Thanks!

Thank you krikzz!

Bug report:

Frequent Disk I/O Errors while scrolling down the menu after first boot, then randomly while quitting an FDS game or changing ED options.
Gradius AC graphics are now broken (Mapper 4 - Nintendo MMC3 Chipset / MMC3 - T(x)ROM / MMC6 - H(x)ROM)
FDS expansion audio is off-key.

I can record direct audio from a composite modded Famicom from 1990 and a second revision Disk System if it can be of any help.
Please don't use select+start on the second controller as the button combo as some of us use Famicoms!
