Off Topic / Am I the only one who doesn't like save states?

I've seen a lot of rising interest and requests for save states lately.

Maybe I'm alone here, but one of my many favorite things about the Everdrives I own, is that there's no save state system (I opted for a Everdrive MD rather than the Mega ED). For years, with emulators, I've used save states and I find it ruins the challenge, fluidity and specialness of most games. Maybe I lack the willpower, but if I can find an edge and it's too easily available at my fingertips, I'll use it.

One of the fundamental differences between classic games and new games is that dying, for the most part, SUCKS in older games. You don't just start at some checkpoint you obtained 2 seconds ago. You are punished for playing badly. Often you are faced with lives or continues, forcing you to say, "Ok, I had better get it right this time." If you want to succeed, you have to develop skills and resist the temptation to give up.

The games were designed a certain way.
It makes succeeding more rewarding.
It builds character.
The point of the Everdrive, for me, is a convenient and modern solution to enjoy games in their original form, on original hardware, providing the original experience; the way they were first created and intended to be enjoyed. Save states alter that experience.

I say veto save states!

Off Topic / OSX Hidden Files

The only computer I own with an SD card reader is my MacBook Pro. I love OSX, but I absolutely hate the stupid hidden files it leaves on every folder it ever comes into contact with. It drives me berserk.
The files show up in Everdrive file browsers after putting your SD card into your SD card reader, so here's what I've done to resolve this annoyance.

1) Create a file with Textedit
2) Paste in the code that I've listed below
3) Change all instances of "SNES" in the code to the volume name of your SD card (or if your SD card's volume name is already SNES, you don't have to  :P)
4) Save file (doesn't matter what you call it)
5) Change file extension to ".command"
6) Go into terminal, find the file and use "chmod 777 *filename*" to make the file executable

Now, right before you eject your SD card (after you've finished making all your changes to the SD card) simply run the .command file you've created.
Yay! No more annoying DS_Store, ._AppleDouble crap.

Super EverDrive / SRAM not working?

Hi Krikzz,
I just received a new SuperEverdrive unit and I've been having all sorts of problems with saving games. At first, I thought it might be something to do with the SD card, but now I'm realizing that I'm still having problems without loading or saving the SRAM.

All roms are (!)(U) unless otherwise noted.
SNES is NTSC. SD card is 2GB SanDisk (same problems with FAT16 and FAT32). OS is v12, Firmware v5, PCB v1.6.
Here are some examples:
- Super Metroid brings up the Anti-Piracy screen. (It can play the [f1] rom, but can't save games)
- Legend of Zelda crashes and erases games if I try to edit a save (crashes as soon as I select "Erase Player")
- SimEarth cannot load a file, even after immediately saving
- SimCity causes errors on loading
- Earthbound immediately says that the save files have been lost

Also, when I load a 32k SRM, it seems to be very fast. Instant, even. Not sure if this is normal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hoping I don't have to send it back :(
