EverDrive N8 / New Super Marios Bros. 3 SRAM hack available!
« on: November 22, 2013, 06:05 AM »
I know this isn't as exciting now with the recent implementation of save state and whatnot, but this is something I was personally waiting for and hoping for a long time. A guy that goes by the name of Infidelity hacked Super Marios Bros. 3 to add a battery backed save features, something that in the eye of many should have been part of the official release of the game. I did not play with it extensively yet but it does seem to work without issue on the Everdrive N8. You can find more information and get the patch on this forum post:

Leave it to talented programmers/hackers to fix the stuff Nintendo should have done themselves decades ago!

EverDrive 64 / Installing a CIC6103 in ED 64 - Supported?
« on: November 09, 2013, 08:56 AM »
I looked around and was surprised when I couldn't really find an answer to my question. I just replaced my ED 64 V1 with a V2 and the only CIC I have on hand right now is a CIC 6103. Does the everdrive support this revision? And if yes, any compatibility issue to be expected?

Thank you

EverDrive N8 / Punchout! with high score saving (PC10 version)
« on: June 06, 2013, 05:45 AM »
I was just checking what would be needed to have the PC10 arcade version of Punchout! running on the Everdrive N8 and just realized that it work without any modification as it use a regular mapper. It's pretty cool because this version let you enter your initial and save your fastest time similar to what is found on Super Punchout. Also, you do not have to wait for Little Mac to run until the Statue of Liberty before getting your password, the screen just freeze almost right away and display your password. Thought some of you would be happy to know that!

EverDrive N8 / Feature request
« on: March 21, 2013, 06:49 PM »
What features would you like the Everdrive N8 to have with a future update? Here's mine:

- Ability to config whether to use A or B to select option (to me the current button mapping doesn't feel natural, I'm so used to select thing with A)

- Support for the new INL-ROM Multi-discrete mapper so that future homebrews compilation can be played

- Visual cue (different color) as to which game are using unsupported mapper while browsing (would probably be difficult I know)

- ines 2.0 support After testing a few rom, it seem that NES 2.0 header are already supported!

Any chance on adding support for the new nes homebrew multicart mapper by Tepples and Infiniteneslive? It is used on new homebrew compilation of game using such mapper as NROM, AOROM, BNROM, CNROM, UxROM, UxROM variant #180 and the cool thing is that the source is freely available so it shouldn't be hard to implement on the Everdrive N8. The source can be found here. For now it is needed for the new Streemerz bundle multi-cart (Project Thread and download) that come with a bunch of cool quality homebrew game and I'm sure that the peoples from NESDev will continue using this for their future homebrew compilation so having it on the Everdrive N8 would be very cool.

EverDrive N8 / Fix for Super Mario Adventure
« on: February 26, 2013, 02:15 AM »
For those of you trying to play Super Mario Adventure on your Everdrive N8, you will need to re-patch your original Super Mario Bros. 3 rom with the following patch and also put this blank save file in your Everdrive N8 save folder. Rename the SRAM file to match your Super Mario Adventure rom. You'll need Super Mario Bros. 3 (U) (PRG1) [!].nes from a goodnes romset to use that combined patch.

What the patch does:

  • Patch the original Super Mario Bros. 3 rom to convert it to Super Mario Adventure
  • Fix the SRAM initialization bug present in the hack - This is the biggest modification and all credit/thanks goes to aWal for going through the game ASM and fixing this

  • Pad the rom to 512Kb as the hack has a unusual CHR size

The combined patch was made by Infiniteneslives from NESDev to save trouble for people with no Hex Editing experience. I also included the original individual patch and read-me from aWal for those of you interested in the technical side of thing.

P.S: As of now, the Everdrive N8 seem to put *.nes extension to it's save file so until it is sorted out just rename your save file to match your nes rom and put *.nes extension. (Apparently, this is intentional and won't be fixed)

EverDrive N8 / Everdrive N8 save SRAM file with incorrect extension
« on: February 26, 2013, 01:01 AM »
I just noticed that my Everdrive N8 create SRAM file with *.nes extension. It would be useful to fix it so that they get saved as *.sav. Not sure if it was intentional but I highly doubt.

Hey guys, I don't know if any of you are using No-Intro ROM set with your Everdrive N8 but if you do, you'll notice sooner or later that some ROMs are not booting at all and are detected as bad roms by the Everdrive N8 software (or emulator for that matter) even on the latest 2013-01-17 set. Turn out that some ROM in the recent set are missing their respective iNES header so even tough the dump are fine, they won't play on emulator or flash cart. I fixed all those games for my own use and thought it might be useful to others peoples so I decided to create IPS patch for all the non-working dump I found in my set and port it. I figured since it was such a long and annoying manual job (since header are different depending on mapper and component used for the game), it might save a lot of work to other users.

No-Intro NES Header Fix (updated 04-04-2013)

Let me know if anything is wrong of if I missed a game! Finally, I can go play B-Wings now ;D

I made 2 batch files that might help windows user to sort their Everdrive N8 rom folder. One of them can sort them in alphabetical folder (folder for each letter) and the other will sort them by Region and whether or not they're unlicensed, prototype etc... You can also sort them with the region/type batch file and then execute the alphabetical batch in each of the region folder to get sorting by region and then by alphabetical folder if you feel like it. Oh and the alphabetical batch file get moved to the ''0'' folder once it's done. I could have avoided this by looking only for *.nes file but I wanted to make it generic so it can be used with other type of file or roms if needed. Just put the batch file you want to use in a folder where all your roms are located and execute it.

Anyway, hope it will be useful to someone!

EverDrive N8 / Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa FDS version reset loop
« on: February 25, 2013, 01:36 AM »
Am I the only not able to load the FDS version of Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa? I have the latest OS S3M3 on my sd card. If I load the game I get the Nintendo FDS splash screen, then the nintendo copyright info and then it jump back to the splash screen over and over. I get the same thing if I load Akumajou Dracula v1.02. Those FDS inage were working fine on my PowerPak so I doubt it's bad rom. Anybody had the same experiences?

EverDrive N8 / BIOS Update issue
« on: February 22, 2013, 02:44 AM »
I just got my Everdrive N8 in the mail and it give me SD initialization error. Nor surprising since i'm trying to use a 1GB Micro-SD. I tried to put a 32Gb cart that I normally use with my ED64 so I could update the BIOS with the n8-bios-v4.nes file but it doesn't seem to be working. First, it booted like an FDS game (FDS boot screen) and then gave me ''Disk trouble: Error 22'' for a few second and would reset to the FDS splash screen over and over again.  I then recopied the update file in another folder (empty this time) and now it seem to be resetting the NES once I execute it. It seem to be loading for a fraction of a second and then I see OS Edit message and I'm back to the file list just like if I were to reset the NES. I'm at a loss here. I am using a Canadian NTSC NES System and a 60 to 72 PIN Adapter.

Update: Ok, I managed to fix my own issue. I wasn't aware that there was a new OS pack released. I was using nesos_s1m1 and the update rom apparently only work with the newer nesos_s2m2 pack. After I updated the OS pack, the BIOS update went as it should and my 1GB Micro-SD is now working properly.

EverDrive N8 / Unofficial Everdrive N8 Compatiblity List
« on: February 09, 2013, 01:33 PM »
I took the liberty of compiling an unofficial compatibility list for those of you who were wondering what will be supported once you receive your Everdrive N8. This list contain most if not all the official release (used Bootgod's cart database) but doesn't contain most pirate game. It is safe to assume that most pirate games with crazy mapper won't be supported, I also added a Nes Powerpak column to help compare the 2 products without relying on misinformation spread by peoples who never owned a Nes flash cart before but insist on making statements.

Anyway, it is probably not perfect but I hope it will be helpful to some of you and keep everyone busy while we're awaiting our Everdrive N8!
