EverDrive 64 / Re: SCUMMVM on the N64 + Everdrive 64 would be wonderful!
« on: September 10, 2020, 02:55 PM »
I've been playing around with this and I've got a lot of games to work, most work pretty much fine, a couple are slow.

However, the save games are still a massive problem. When I create the ROMs, they all have the same CRC ID. I've played around with editing the save_db.txt but I guess it's not great if every game is linked to the same CRC? But - it does seem to make a save file in /SAVE. Also, you've got the games native save game menus vs the ScummVM menu (F5), not sure if one overrides the other?

Secondly some games have nefarious copy protection which is difficult to get around when some of these games are abandonware and the manual is hard to find..

You definitely can get CD audio but only if you can ensure the final rom is <= 64mb. That might mean you have to manually compress some of the audio files in the game data. I've found that some of the Amiga versions have better audio than the DOS though.

EverDrive 64 / Re: Everdrive X7 NTSC Colour Issues

Kerr is right unfortunately,

As a third option, I use a projector (Optoma HD600), which has composite and s-video inputs as well as HDMI. Through s-video my screen will go blank for a second when I switch to NTSC games on my x7 but rights itself quick enough. Also to add to Kerr's point, I think some of the NTSC games seem to have better and truer colour than the PAL versions.

As a follow up to this, ordered another Everdrive for another console, this took 21 days so YMMV with this...
Note neither had any custom charges to pay for post to the UK

EverDrive 64 / Re: Backing up a memory pak on the X7

Nope! This was actually me being a total dumbass (not for the first time...  :-[)

You just need to navigate to the ED64/Saves/ folder and select the .mpk file (which is either named after the game if you used the 'sync' option or is 'controller_1.mpk') and select 'File to CPAK'.

Simples! I guess it's just made harder as there's no definitive guide or wiki for the x7 (although this is pretty much explained for the earlier editions on the excellent Micro 64 site)

Well I've only owned the x7, so not really sure how you're meant to do it. As far as I can see the x7 doesn't have that option to restore the memory pak from the SD  :o

I've attached the menu screens (apologies for the image quality):

The Main Menu is what you see when you push 'Z'.
The Controller Pak Manager is what you see when you select 'CPak Manager' from the Main Menu.
The Information screen is what you see when you select 'Information' on the Controller Pak Manager screen.

Any ideas?  :-\

I don't really understand this concept either and it's not that clear from anything i've read...

So (on the x7) you can backup the CPak to the SD card, or you can 'sync' it to the last game you played (so it has the same filename as the game). But you need to copy this back over to the CPak when you want to use it with the game - OK.

Then how do you get the CPak image on the SD back on to the physical CPak?!?!
