News / Re: Joyzz Availalbe for order!
« on: July 15, 2018, 02:33 AM »
Got mine in recently and am happy so far. I wish I'd waited for the paint fixed version but it is what it is. I don't suppose there might be some way for those of us with 1st or 2nd batch models to order just a new face with the fixed paint, eh? I'm not sure if my OCD will be able to handle it once it starts rubbing off ::)

I also didn't think ahead for some reason and get one black and one clear so I may need to label them so as to not get them confused. Oops!  ;D

Try removing the cartridge 1mm from the cartridge slot.
Already tried that, too. No luck.

I'm in talks with SAG right now - they wanted me to try an old Kingston card which I have and no change.

It honestly sounds like it's dead on arrival. You should get to the version screen with an error code when the micro SD isn't inserted regardless of bootloader version. Did you buy it from Stone Age Gamer with the additions they make? You know, when they change the shell, stickers, etc. It could have been damaged through that process. Try reading the Everdrive with no micro SD inside. Check if any GBA reads it. On another note, you should always test a product as soon as you get it. You should check SAG policy on replacement since you said it was a year in already.
Four different GBAs yield the same results - SD card in or out. As a side note, it did show a bit different behavior for a bit late yesterday - the Nintendo logo would be present, it would get past this screen to a solid black screen, then a few seconds later go to a solid white screen. Today it's back to doing what it was before - staying on the boot screen without the Nintendo logo.

As for not testing - it was a silly mistake on my part. Generally speaking, I always test things like this as soon as they arrive, especially when I know I may not actually get around to using them for a while. In this case, "life" was happening and I guess since I'd never had issues with Everdrives or SAG in the past, I didn't think much about it.

Either way, it's definitely my fault. It was a deluxe edition from SAG, which I believe come with a 3 yr warranty, so I'm not terribly worried, but wanted to check here before going through that whole process.

EverDrive GBA / Cannot get past Game Boy boot screen

Been a while since I've been on here :)

Long story short, I preordered the ED-GBA X5 from SAG back in 2016 and apparently never tested the thing - I think my GBAs were in storage at the time and it just sat on a shelf until recently.

I tried loading up an SD card with the latest OS and my AGS-001 wasn't getting past the Game Boy boot screen. Figured I probably just needed to reinsert it, but that didn't change anything. Tried a game cart in the system and it worked fine. Dug out my old AGB-001 - same thing. Tried it in the Gamecube - same thing. Verified each was working with official carts. As a note, it boots as if no cart is in the slot - without the Nintendo logo. Just once of the many times I've tried to boot it, did it have jumbled blocks where the Nintendo logo would usually be, if that means anything.

Cleaned the contacts and tested running on both portables while plugged in - same thing. Still same with the GC player too. EDIT - found and tested with my micro as well - same thing, not that I was expecting differently...just hoping.

Did some reading - saw the early reports SD card compatibility issues. Went to check the bootloader version by removing the SD card - still the same thing. I'd expect that if it was a card compatibility issue, I could at least see my bootloader version. Since this was a preorder, I suspect the shipped bootloader was one of the first, if not the first, version.

Since I can't even get to that screen, though, does that seem indicative of a larger, potentially hardware, issue? I'm waiting on some new SD cards to get here which I'll test with of course, but it doesn't seem like that will be fruitful from what I'm seeing thus far.

Thoughts?

Been a while since I've been around these parts (hi!) but figured I'd share in case it wasn't too widely known yet. SainT over at AtariAge is working on an SD based NGPC flash solution which will be a welcome addition to the collection. NGPC is easily one of my all time fav handhelds and while the flash carts I have for it are nice, one with an SD slot will be simply awesome I think. One to watch for sure!

Side note, he's also working on a Jaguar SD cart for those interested ;)

And the battery is still working after 15+ years? You are lucky.
The battery in my Dragon Warrior NES cart was still working 25 years later :) It's cool to see some this older technology outlast what we expected.

Hacking/reburning the eproms has been discussed elsewhere though nothing ever came from it:
http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=266472

However, Darksoft is is the planning stages of an MVS/AES flash cart similar to his ST-V and CPS-2 flash carts. Last estimated price stated by Darksoft was about US $350, though I'd expect that to change:

Not that I recall.

I thought the least liked Neogeo was the X?
Only if you actually count the NGX when considering Neo systems...which most people don't...or shouldn't, lol.

People in the 'official' thread on NG boards seem to have it working fine. I have a BLW but never got around to installing it so I can't say from experience...yet.

Well I dont have skype (yeah i know), has anyone ordered off him in the past?
(SAG seems to add a lot to the price)
Check earlier in this thread. ZeroWing talked about it and gave his impressions on an older revision of the board.

then I got used to it
good for you but for anyone used to playing nintendo systems for the past 20 years the current mapping will never feel natural and is quite an annoyance.
20? 30 year veteran here ::) And I got used to almost immediately. This is getting old. You all have the ability to have one cart with every GB game you could ever want, but you whine about the most insignificant thing. Some people are never happy.

Be prepared to wait for a reply. I wanted one for my 3DO FZ-1 and I never got a response when I used Skype. I was about to start asking via ICQ and just said screw it, couldn't be bothered. He also only accepts Western Union transfers as payment.
Exactly the two reasons I ended up just caving and buying it from Stone Age Gamer.
