It would be nice to get a comparison review of the translations. I've found official translations can sometimes be worse than the fan translations, especially for the translations of games decades after the release.

News / Re: EDN8 OS v20-BETA. Large update incoming
« on: March 11, 2019, 04:23 PM »
As for v20, well, i really don't know why it not working for some of us, it work on all my test carts and all my systems. I do not know how to fix the problem if i can't see the problem. But what if i would not made v20 at all? N8 still be best in terms of mappers support and features, all would be happy with v16 or some v17 with minor updates. But i tried to made huge jump for N8, spent incredible amount of time for all those mappers and fds sound and what i have after all? Only complaints? I must say this is dissapoint and demotivate me.
Completely agree. Current stable release is perfect and is the best NES flash cart out there. The extras being added to the later beta release are all free upgrades to me. If they don't work on your setup, then I'm genuinely sorry but no one owes you anything beyond what's advertised in v16.

Just a left field question, does anyone or will anyone sell kits to assemble your own SD2SNES/Pro? I have the tools to surface mount all the components and would think it would be a fun project.

Sounds great n all but I'll be waiting until there's an actual need to upgrade. For example, features like NES emulation and Super Gameboy support.

Current SD2SNES is still kill'n it.

I'll have to play around with this to see if I can recreate the issue on mine. Coincidentally I jsut started up Yoshi's Island today. I'll update the thread if my save file disappears.

According to this:

There are 36 games to use the SA-1 chip.
I believe their question was in regards to which SA-1 games also support MSU hacks simultaneously. I can only think of SM:RPG and Kirby as well.

FXPAK (SD2SNES) / Firmware v1.9.0 released
« on: December 18, 2018, 04:36 AM »

Firmware 1.9.0 is out. Download here!

What’s new:
  • SA-1 support by RedGuy! Big thanks to RedGuy again :) This was a really tight fit for the FPGA so there’s a little catch – MSU1 is not available for SA-1 games.
  • Also from RedGuy comes partial SRAM detection for some known games (SuperFX & SA-1). This calculates a ROM CRC and chooses to monitor only specific regions in cartridge RAM for changes. This enables automatic saving without having to resort to periodic saving, reducing wear on the SD card.
  • SNES CPU <-> PPU clock phase alignment. This is a long standing issue on a sub-CPU-cycle base inside the SNES. HDMA to certain registers can cause flickering sprite slabs to appear when CPU and PPU are out of phase after a cart-side reset (which does not reset the PPUs). This fixes the notorious flickering of characters with the giant frog attack in Chrono Trigger, sprites in Kirby Super Star, characters behind the text box in Star Ocean, and probably more. See for technical details.
  • Added an option to always go back to menu on reset, regardless of whether it’s a short or long reset.
  • LED brightness setting (16 levels)
  • Added an option to choose whether you want to start a game with or without cheats enabled (of those that are marked as enabled in the YAML file). You can enable / disable them later using the L+R+Start+A / L+R+Start+B button combinations if you have in-game buttons enabled.
  • Disable Satellaview emulation when a real Satellaview base unit is detected to avoid bus fighting and facilitate Satellaview development
  • System Information now shows the currently effective video mode (50 or 60 Hz).
  • Control signal edges are detected a bit earlier, improving stability on some consoles (Github Issues)
  • Fix timing of auto region patching. This should solve cross-issues with Super Scope games because they rely on the same register that is also used to read the console region.
  • Fix brightness patching / limiting for games that use HDMA to alter the brightness register. (e.g. Star Fox)
  • Fix an occasional imaginary access cycle carried out by the FPGA after reconfiguration. This fixes lockups when loading games with dedicated FPGA files, i.e. SuperFX, SA-1, OBC-1.
  • Fix SuperCIC pair mode entry for consoles with ≤ 3.072MHz CIC clock (notably GPM revisions). (Github Issue)
  • S-RTC register state is reset when the console is reset.

The devs refining this project is probably one of my favorite aspects of the community. They're finding little issues and stomping out the bugs on an already near perfect product.  :-*

EverDrive N8 / Re: Sorting Issue
« on: December 06, 2018, 06:24 PM »
Hi all Just got an Everdrive N8 today. Works great but when I scroll through the gamelist half of the games i put don't show. How can I fix this? I used a 2GB card I had ying around and formatted the SD card in FAT32.
The OS can only view 256 roms in one folder. Break up the ROMs into folders like

From the FAQ thread:
Note: Everdrive N8 only supports 256 files per folder, so you may need to create subfolders (A-Z, 1-99, etc.)

I'm a big fan of the SD2SNES reset function. Press the reset button once and you reset the game, hold the rest button for 3 seconds and it resets to the OS menu. Anyway I can set this up for the N8?

I know you said you have game mode on and any extra processing off with your TV but this does seem to resemble a TV lag issue. The only trouble shooting step I can think of would be to format your SD card again and reinstall a fresh OS. Interested to hear what Ikari has to say.

EverDrive N8 / Re: Sorting Issue

File sorting on everything I suspect would be far, far too slow on the NES processor.  It's already pretty slow just working on the first four characters.  The easier way to do this is to use a FAT sorter, or remove the games and copy them back on from scratch.  Windows is usually pretty good about putting them on in alphabetical order.
Ah good tip. I'll look into this, thanks!

edit: best solution was just deleting and recopying the files over and letting windows do the sorting like you said. I'll just do this from now on. I don't see myself adding games now that I have my favorites on the cart.

Apologies for the necromancy of this thread...

Well this answered a question that had me puzzled. Is there any way of having the N8 use the entire title for sorting? I don't even care if it slows down indexing.  :-X
