News / Re: EDN8 OS V9
« on: February 19, 2014, 05:46 AM »
Just tested this.  Using savestates in metal gear still causes a black screen when you load.  Rockman minus infinity romhack (mmc5) gives me error a5.  I guess the n8 refuses to combine the prg and chr ramchips for a single 8mbit prg which the real mmc5 is capable of.
Weird, i can save and load metal gear without any problems. Actually i did not detect any problems with new save states during testing, but of course it not mean that problems is not possible, cuz i did not test whole romset

Hmm that is weird.

EverDrive N8 / Any plans for the n8 to play nsf files?

Sorry if this has been answered before.  Are there any plans for the n8 to be able to play nsf music files?

im sure everyone knows what my preffered everdrive would be :)

Methinks you should change your username into it, that would be like free advertising.

It's easy having a cart that supports both gb and gbc games.  Just a different rom header for gbc games otherwise the cart hardware is pretty much the same thing.

News / Re: My FPGA nes with EDN8
« on: January 04, 2014, 04:56 AM »
I'm pretty sure he meant the ability to adjust the clock rate through software, which is completely feasible in a FPGA based console.

Yes, that's what I meant, so the Everdrive 64 (either built in to the new N64 console, or a separate, real ED64 plugged into the new N64) can have some games flagged so that on running them the new N64 runs at an overclocked speed, so that the N64 only activates the overclocking for games that benefit from it.

Oh okay sorry got confused.

FPGA N64? You must be joking (: Why not make FPGA Core i8 cpu at once, and beat the intel. You very overestimate abilities of poor engineer from Ukraine (:
People still can not make stable software emulator of n64, as far as i know, cuz nobody know details about hardware level of n64. NES is pretty well documented, but still damn hard to make accurate FPGA implementation, N64 is completely unreal

Project "unreality"

You should make an N64, with HDMI (or similar) output, save state support, and the ability to over-clock the CPU (and GPU?) from software, for games that would benefit from over-clocking!

That would be fanastic! Maybe impossible, I don't know, but if it's possible then you should make it  ;)

Overclocking from software is impossible, clock speed is generated by a crystal oscillation hardware circuit on the pcb.  The hdmi thing should be quite doable viletim already came up with a cpld dac for the n64, again that would have to be soldered in.

I really hope krikzz finds the time to fix the savestates of the n8 so it loads graphics properly, I know it's doable, the savestate mappers for the nes powerpak don't have this issue.  Maybe krikzz / kalle can share knowledge for this one.

I'd prefer a fpga megacd that loads isos from a sd card over a fpga nes on my genesis.  I only mentioned the pc engine cd because the pce cd system doesn't have a 68k processor that would need recreating so it would probably be easier to do.

1: Man you're way too smart at this stuff

2: Will this give you more of a reason to make a fpga pc engine cd unit replacement?

EverDrive N8 / Re: Patching NES Games for Infinite Lives

This is cool.  I've been doing similar stuff with my flash devices.  I made versions of contra 3 / super C where you start with the spread gun and you never lose your weapon / bombs if you die or continue.  I also altered contra 3's selectable amount of lives.  It's nice being able to customize games to fix issues and play it instantly on the real thing.

You do realize that the North American release date is February 1990 and that I or anybody else could care less when it came out in Japan right?

I think what you meant to say is "I couldn't care less".  That's fine.

Yeah usually fixes get uploaded to romhacking.net.  I made a fix for a marioland 2 romhack from 2006 that stopped a major glitch and the romhacking.net staff added it on my behalf after asking for permission.

^ how about some links for those fixed patches?  8)

I thought wherever the hacks are hosted contained the fixed patches.  Just download and try them.  I don't see why they'd keep hosting the old patches.
