If the SA-1 is just a souped up SNES CPU... can the SNES CPU be overclocked somehow and just use that?

EverDrive 64 / Re: Top 10 Japan N64 Titles requesting to be translated
« on: September 17, 2017, 11:53 PM »
My opinions on N64 translations are:

I suppose it would be low priority as we have an english version but I would really like to play Shindou Mario 64. Although it is only marginally different, I see it as sort of an upgrade to the original.  The game itself is not very text heavy.  I don't even think a full translation would even be needed.  When I play it in Japanese the only time I am vexed and confounded is when my memory fails as to what Mario's mission is in that particular playing field. (usually I resort to collecting coins).  So the hints on the star-screen would be all I would need to make Mario 64 'playable' in English.  The dialogue from Peach, Bowser, Toad, and other NPC's is negligible in my opinion and would just be icing on the cake

Otherwise I eagerly any progress on Simcity 64 and Doshin the Giant (possibly Animal Forest if that isn't done yet).  I think those games show off what the N64 was capable of as Animal Forest and Doshin the Giant came out on the Gamecube.

I snipped the tabs in my SNES Mini and a Japanese Super Gameboy 2 works with my EdGB just fine.

I know I have free time, but I don't feel like I do, if that makes any sense.

NES (Toaster)  Equipped with a PowerPak
SNES (Mini) Equipped with a PowerPak
N64 Equipped with an ED64
Genesis Model 1 Equipped with an EDMD
PS1, the older model, patiently waiting for PSIO
Gamecube (the older one that can do 480p)
Wii (the older one that can play GCN games)
GB Boy Colour equipped with an EDGB
Gameboy Micro equipped with an EZ Flash IV
DS Lite Equipped with a Super Card and EZ Flash V

I also have an Intellivision, the 1979 version

Personally I'd most like the following:

-Shindou Mario 64, yes I know that it's just Mario 64 with Rumble feature added, but I see it as the definitive N64 version of Mario 64 and it's a shame that it's only in Japanese.

-Doshin the Giant (DD)

-SimCity 64 (DD)

Psio exists... But I'm pretty sure they are made in a garage by an elderly man at a rate of 10 a year.

I got my PS modded in preparation for it only to be too late to order one twice already.

That's good to know, thanks.

Right (I *think* I understand!)

Is there any N64 homebrew that does use real 3D hardware rendering, or is that undocumented for homebrew users? Come to think of it, I don't recall offhand seeing any original XBox homebrew that used 3D hardware, either. And I've heard that part of the reason there's no real XBox emulator yet is because the 3D hardware is undocumented.

There are a handful of small demo-style homebrew programs I can think of that do real 3D with the RDP without illegally using Libultra but from what I understand they are somewhat trivial. Beyond that, they are all in assembly and use display primitives that are not exposed by Libdragon through a C interface. Would be an awesome project for someone to add beyond the solid and textuted RDP quads it offers.

Secondly, I could swear the original Xbox hardware was basically an Intel PC (an old one at that, 733 MHz Pentium 3, 64 MB RAM) with a PC-part derived NVIDIA GPU, all running a modified Windows NT operating system kernel. If ever a system was perfect for creating a High Level Emulator that completely intercepts / virtualizes the original environment, that original Xbox would be it. My two cents. :)

Yup, the first Xbox was a pc in all but name.

CPU was a Pentium 3
GPU was Nvidia
Controller ports were modified USB
Built in HDD with a file system based on FAT called FATx

In skilled hands the CPU could be upgraded to a 1.4ghz Celeron and the ram could be doubled to 128MB

EverDrive 64 / 64 DD games

Okay I realize this is a bit of a long shot but I'd like to play F-Zero DD on my ED64, however my ED64 is a V1, is there anything I can do or am I out of luck?

EverDrive GB / Re: Should I bother with a backlit GB Pocket?

Maybe, so.  But it's a decent compromise.  I don't notice a difference.  It beats hunting for a GBASP-101 or attempting gameboy surgery.  If you're a purist and a perfectionist who has the skills to mess with LCD modifications than that's great and I'm happy for you.  But for everybody else, the GB Boy Colour is a great find.  Considering that original gameboy colors allegedly cannot be modded anyway (so I hear), this is the best it will get for most people.

PSIO is all there is. You need an older PS1 with a parallel port and a chip instaled on it. (I sent my board away for this to be done) then you just need to buy the PSIO which is easier said then done.  They seem to only get a hundred or so units every six months or so.  Every time I got the e-mail saying that they were in stock, they were instantly not in stock the second I logged in.
