EverDrive GBA / Re: Should I have my Mini Replaced or not?
« on: September 04, 2020, 09:54 PM »
How much longer is your warranty good for? I would use it until its close to your warranty end and see if it keeps acting up only to avoid having to go through an exchange. If it acts up again, unfortunately you may need to replace it.

I have the exact same problem, but only when I put my GBA X5 Mini into my GBA SP (AGS-001). My X5 works great on my IPS modded GBA as well as on my Micro. Has anybody found a solution for this? I've reformatted it to all of the old OS-s and that didn't help :( I've tried everything, I really want to play my SP!
if it works on your other consoles, I would be inclined to say that perhaps there is an issue with your SP? I haven't found a solution to my problem. I sent my cart in to Krikzz and they sent me another that works great. My cart didn't work on ANY console though.

I just purchased an Everdrive GBA X5 Mini last month and it arrived today
The diagnostics are all "ok", so will I encounter any of those problems in the future?
You may. You may not. I just received my replacement in the mail today. It is hard to tell if it is working solid. I was able to go a whole week without it freezing on me. Then out of no where it would start freezing every 5 minutes. It can be few and far apart.

EverDrive GBA / Re: Micro SD setup?

It would appear you followed the correct steps. Have you tried other SD cards? There is list of known compatible cards floating around the forum somewhere. Maybe try doing a standard format instead of a quick format.

First I would try different SD cards. The ED can be a tad picky with them.

My customer service response said, "did you try changing the battery?" It looks like it takes CR 1220 which are super cheap so I'm going to try it
you can always use a volt meter and check the battery to make sure it's live also.

The first times I played the game froze with cackling noises, just a couple of times. After having the time to play over the weekend errors started to be more frequent with red and blue screens... and in the end it stopped loading, just red screen...

If yours has any of this signs, try to play as much as you can to see where it goes, but dont hesitate to contact through the warranty window
I am currently awaiting my replacement cart in the mail. I got about a whole week of heavy playing without any freezing or error screens. This morning it started happening again. Very bizarre. Unfortunately when the replacement arrives, I fear there won't be an positive way to insure the cart is working properly as it malfunctions at random.

Send the mail. Mine stopped working today
what happened

I've noticed with the crackling, it only happens when something touches the cart. If the game is running and I leave it on the table, it won't freeze. I think it has to do with the contacts.

One thing to keep note of. Some SP's have very sensitive audio channels so sometimes pushing the buttons down too much makes the audio crack or go distorted this of course only happens on refurbished ones as the plastic is a lot more flimsy than the real ones that were more solid and durable, I had that issue on my ED GBA X5 too but normally a push in the switch box with your thumb gets the cracking to go away... the most jarring part is when the volume fully goes mute and it then silently comes back on.

I've been using a refurbished AGS 101 (Resistant to scratching, finger marks, sun cream and pretty much anything that would catch onto it) for as long as I got into wanting to play emulators on my GBA, while I kept the genuine one of a kind AGS 101 in a container to preserve it, for reasons unknown lol
yeah I hear you. I know exactly what you are talking about. I'm sure this is not the problem for my device. I'm playing in a OG GBA with the stock shell. In any case, putting a little pressure on the shell even in a refurbished shell should not cause the console to freeze albeit the sound might come out distorted. . I think it has to do with the connection in between the cart and mother board.

On top of that, it does not happen with authentic carts.

This is essentially what's happening to all of us http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=9973.0

It seems to happen when something taps my cart

Honestly I don't know. Do you think it's the same thing? Maybe it is, maybe it's not.

Be grateful. I wish my only problem was the battery. Mine keeps freezing.
you dont solve the problem by saying someone has worse problem. you solve the problem by solving the problem. dont be grateful. ask for new battery
I'm sorry if I offended you. The person above me told him how to solve the issue. I was only trying to make him feel better.

is this something that shows up in failed self-test diagnostics in the OS? or nah?
It hasn't for me. Only 1 time out of maybe 30 times did my cart read ROM0 - Error. Every other time everything passes. Unfortunately, it happens very often to my cart. Within 5 minutes of playing, so I can't really get anywhere in the game and I keep needing to replay what didn't save within that 5-10 mins.

It's happening the same for me as I posted here.
I thought it wasn't the same issue as the red screen some users were discussing. But looks like it's another common issue after all.

Tested on three GBA: two GBA SP and a micro. All never gave me any problems, even with other flashcards.

It seems smaller ROMs (64mb) work fine, but 128mb ROMs all fail.
For me, it's odd that anything fails when I run the diagnostics. ROM0 has failed only one time. Every other time I run it, everything passes albeit the cart still always freezes. A couple times I got the red screen on boot. Also no ROMs run fine for me. Everything will eventually freeze if given enough time. Sometimes it happens in a matter of 2 seconds, sometimes I can get 20 minutes of game play in.

update After more playing, I now received a green screen. Whatever that means lol.

Same issue happening with mine. I have tested mine on my Gameboy SP and GBA and it happens on both. My nintendo carts do not freeze up.

Update- after more and more playing now the screen is just going white after it freezes.

After reading all of the responses it seems to be the same thing that happened to my Super Card SD, I think only having a battery isn't enough to power the device correctly over a while the thing will load a game and white out and then not function ever again... I think the extra bulk of the older model had a much more powerful processor in it that could keep the device running even though I really don't want to admit it as I always prefer a GBA cart everdrive looking like a GBA one. And sometimes I miss using a big SD card in it as it was so much easier to add games to aswell.
not going to lie, I was super excited to be playing it. What a bummer.

Here is a video of what keeps happening.
