Wow, well done! May need to do that to a cart myself...

EDIT : There seems to be a bit of graphical corruption on your file load screen, is that normal? Nestopia doesn't seem to have that on my end

I would be very interested in playing Lagrange Point on real hardware!

EverDrive N8 / Back to the Future (U) has missing sharp note graphics
« on: October 13, 2014, 11:01 PM »
As stated, in the 3rd 'minigame' at the school dance, there is a part where Marty has to catch all of the Sharps, Flats, and Notes with his guitar. Unfortunately, it seems that you can only see the shadow of the sharp notes, and seeing them is incredibly difficult. Since this is already not an easy game, it actually completely messed up a run I was doing. I can see how it was missed, though, as this isn't exactly a *good* game :P

I'm going to try and write a replacement mapper to see if I can fix this because the CNROM looks like a great beginner's project to implement, but I don't mind if it is fixed in the meantime :) I'll post up my version when I get it working.

EDIT: bought the real game, seems the sharp notes are colored differently there.. Still not quite as hard to see as the EDN8, but good to know nonetheless

More than 256 files i guess?
This. I recommend splitting the nes files into directories by the first letter, B will require 2 folders but everything else should fit in one folder (with the no intro set, that is)

Just loaded micro doc about mappers integration: http://krikzz.com/pub/support/everdrive-n8/development/mapper-install.txt
Thank you so much!! :) This was just what I needed. I'll get to work, hopefully I'll have something for you soon

Thanks for the info, krikzz. I didn't think it would be that easy, I was pretty confused as to what I needed to do to get the mapper to work.

It actually does simulate the BIOS in a high level way, the Famicom disk system theme is missing and no bios is supplied with the os and it isn't required in the ROM set.

EDIT: come to think of it, most of the mappers seem to be implemented in this way, a high level overview of input->output instead of a deeper reverse engineering to get a low level simulation. This makes me wish I could work on the mapper source code, because I care about low level simulation and I'm concerned that these mappers won't be implemented accurately because they'll reach the point of "good enough".

Just to clarify, I was using the Famicom Disk System ROM found in the latest No Intro set.

Not familiar with the fds conversion, myself.

Hi,

Are the No-Intro roms the best one to use Everdrive products ?
Yes they are, not because of any affiliation between nointro and krikzz(there is none as far as I know), but because the nointro set is the gold standard of ROM sets. A majority of the Roms, if not all, are bit perfect copies of the originals.

Sometimes, discrepancies are found in nointro too, but they issue updates often and have for years.

GOODSNES is decent but there are known bad ROMs, and it hasn't been updated in a long time (to my knowledge)

Oops, I managed to miss that the source code is up on the server as well. Well, I suppose I'll have to take a look with the help of MonoDevelop then :)
Failing that I might port it to C or something, we'll see
I'd be very interested in a Linux tool! I might even need to buy another EDN8 with USB :)

EverDrive N8 / Doki Doki Panic's sound effects are very distorted

Most of the sounds in Doki Doki panic sound very awful compared to the original, even grating.. The door sound effect and the fireworks explosion at the beginning are completely off.

Might need to wait for a reply from Krikzz, this looks bad :(

Have you tried the nointro ROM set bubble bobble? Could be a bad ROM. Also make sure you're playing on a PAL NES. If it's not either of those things, someone else may have to test to verify. Unfortunately I don't have a PAL NES(yet) but the NTSC Bubble Bobble works on my NTSC NES

The PAL NES has a slightly different clock speed and a few other differences compared to the Famicom and NTSC NES. This causes the incompatibilities you are seeing. No way around it other than to have a PAL NES too. There is no way for the Everdrive N8 to fix this.
