EverDrive N8 / Re: NES CIC CLONE
« on: February 10, 2013, 12:09 PM »
Someone (jims cool) on Nesdev's forum was busy doing the same thing with a attiny13 except he's planning to have it work both as NES CIC and SNES CIC as far as I remember. Impressive that you managed to do it in 3 days! It's always nice seeing AVR get some love:0 Will you be releasing the binary or you are planning on setting the protection fuse and keeping it private? (just curious, no judgments!)

I actually got quite surprised once all my excel formula where written and I had my first look at the finished list. In term of regular released game, pretty much everything is covered and it's only the first release. There's a very few games that the Everdrive N8 is supporting that the Powerpak is not and vice versa but Krikzz should really get a pat on the back as it took a long time for the Powerpak to get to a similar state and this is mind blowing that he was able to cover so much ground on the very first official release. I know that Loopy made his mapper's source code available but we're only talking about 5 or 6 mappers, it must have been quite a job to get that kind of compatibility so quickly.

It wasn't made out of anger, it was made first and foremost to help people that were not sure which mapper was used in which games and what would work when they get their everdrive. I also included the Powerpak column for those who were wondering the current difference between Powerpak and Everdrive N8 so they do not have to rely on the incorrect information being spread lately because unfortunatly, the most vocal users about this subject don't really seem to be the most knowledgeable about the subject. With that list available, it will be easier for peoples to confirm things.

And thanks for the comments people, I'll be sure to fix your small issues with centering tonight jimmyemunoz;)

Edit: I corrected the centering on the list.

I think it's safe to say we do not have to worry about compatibility for licensed games. Very impressive for a first release.

EverDrive N8 / Unofficial Everdrive N8 Compatiblity List
« on: February 09, 2013, 01:33 PM »
I took the liberty of compiling an unofficial compatibility list for those of you who were wondering what will be supported once you receive your Everdrive N8. This list contain most if not all the official release (used Bootgod's cart database) but doesn't contain most pirate game. It is safe to assume that most pirate games with crazy mapper won't be supported, I also added a Nes Powerpak column to help compare the 2 products without relying on misinformation spread by peoples who never owned a Nes flash cart before but insist on making statements.

Anyway, it is probably not perfect but I hope it will be helpful to some of you and keep everyone busy while we're awaiting our Everdrive N8!

Yeah, bunnyboy never try to update anything. Last cool thing that came out was TheFox's savestate enabled mapper and again it was not even from him or listed on the official website.

Yeah I forgot about the translation patch for Akumajou Densetsu, very good point. That version is indeed superior because of the added sound channel of the VRC-6. The other MMC5 game are not that interesting to me, game like Nobunaga's Ambition 2, Uncharted Water and Romance of the Three Kingdom 2 and other intense chinese themed strategy games as far as I remember.

DVD2VCD, that's just a list of mapper that was added on top of bunnyboy's own mapper and TheFox mapper pack. Also you're standing by your previous statement that third parties's mappers pack are buggy as hell by posting a list of added mapper? I'm confused...

I'll try to compile a compatibility list if I have time so that kind of non-sense talk is put to a stop.

Also, I have no doubt that Krikzz will bring MMC5 mapper support.

I'm not trying to ''praise'' a rival flashcart, I just don't like people making decision on false informations. Everdrive 8N is awesome and like I said I am waiting for mine just like you guys but it doesn't mean I need to start going around bashing stuff I know nothing about. Yes the Everdrive 8N has the potential to become even more compatible than the NES Powerpak (and with Krikzz support I'm sure it will in due time), but people should understand that it is not the case yet.

So yeah, it might be the official forum of the Everdrive but it is no reason to spread bullshit about anything not Everdrive.

In any case, since you clearly never used the Powerpak and have a totally biased opinion, you shouldn't just post stuff because you ''think'' it is like this or that.

MMC5 not supported by bunnyboy, third party packs are buggy as hell..

That statement is totally untrue, Loopy's mapper are much better than the one provided by bunnyboy and have absolutely no stability issues whatsoever. I and many other at nesdev have been using them for years with no issue. Really, I understand the excitement for the new Everdrive 8N, I'm excited too and am waiting to receive mine but you guys need to stop spreading false and inaccurate informations.

That mapper chart for the powerpak is not accurate. It doesn't list third parties mapper pack from Loopy and TheFox. Also, Krikzz is seen playing Akumajou Densetsu , the Japanese version of Castlevania 3 which doesn't use the MMC5 mapper but use the VRC-6 instead. The Powerpak can play both the Japanese version and the American version using Loopy's mapper pack.

Best way would be to look at the mapper compatibility chart and then search bootgod's cart database (http://bootgod.dyndns.org:7777/) to see what games use which mappers. As of now, the nes powerpak got better compatibility (if using Loopy's third party mapper pack).

Unfortunatly it won't ever be possible as most of those pirate games (FFVII etc) are way larger than regular licensed game and the Everdrive doesn't have enough memory to store those big 2mb roms in the ram. As far as I know, it won't support anything bigger than 512kb just like the Powerpak unless krikzz find a way to remap the data or something very clever.
