Off Topic / Re: EverDrive DS Possible Someday?
« on: May 16, 2019, 06:32 PM »
To be honest there have been DS flashcarts that went beyond quality of Everdrive in the past. Offering all kinds of extra bells and whistles that not even Krikkz offers in most of his flashcarts. The problem is they didn't sell well, or those bells and whistles came at a price (huge battery drains).

https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Flashcart_Comparison_Chart

The bigger problem is many of the companies ended up going out of business, and there is no 3rd party support to keep them alive... For example Cyclone DS iEvolution was the only one to have DSi support, and the company never released their source code which would have allowed other flash cart developers to add DSi support.

The Supercard DSTwo + was also rather nice, but the company also went out of business. There hasn't been any updates to the emulators on it, one of its main draws. But it was a fullly featured DS flashcart too with save states and cheat code supports. You could also run dos on it to a point with one of the apps you could get for it!

We also live in an age where 3DS is fully hacked, and there is ability to hack the DSi as well. So flashcarts are somewhat less useful.

Stil if Krikkz made a flashcart that offered everything DsTwo + could do, and also offered DSi compatiblity I'd buy it in a heartbeat...
Thank you for the reply. That's really interesting. Which DS flash cart do you think is the best then overall?

Off Topic / EverDrive DS Possible Someday?
« on: May 15, 2019, 02:13 PM »
I was wondering if it's possible and/or likely that we could see an EverDrive for Nintendo DS as there are other flash carts for it but none of such high quality and design as the EverDrive carts. I feel like there is a demand there for a DS flash cart that people can actually trust.

Just my thoughts though so other opinions would be welcomed.

Flex, did you get your system mailed off? I'm on v14 or v15 I think, so I haven't messed around with anything new, I just really enjoy when problems are figures out and fixed!

Great of you to do this, maybe I need to do it with my TG16 and Everdrive for that, it's never worked...

On hold at the moment, I sent some videos of my issues to Krikzz and he said not to worry as he thinks it may be something to do with the Hyperkin 60 - 72 pin adapter I am using in my PAL NES as I have the N8 Famicom version so I can use it in my AV Famicom and the PAL NES with the adapter, he is going to source one of these himself first. If I'm honest though I am slightly skeptical as the adapter works with no issues on OS v16 unless something changed in the code causing the hang with the adapter, also I still get intermittent IO issues on the AV Fami where there is no adapter in use.

However no one is going to know better than the man himself so who am I to question! lol. Fingers crossed!

I still have the console and everything here ready to post if necessary.
I feel like that's unlikely but I could be wrong. I have the standard NES shell and get some issues still.

Not to say something controversial, but I think krikzz's priority is to SELL his products,, he's not even posting on the forum anymore,, it's all on twitter.
The usual support here is "try a different sd card" is completely unacceptable for 100-200$ products.

Not acceptable? I wonder, what exactly you expecting for? When you buy some apple gadget, for 1000$ as example, can you take some direct feedback from the engineers who working over device development? In best case you will take few completely useless tips from guy in call center. You talking about 100-200$ product like about very limited exclusive car for 10 000 000$. This is not working that way.
I do what i can, but i not an god. i physically can not sit here and give the tips how to copy files on sd card and work over development at same time. So, time to time i here, but rest of time i working over hardware and my scoliosis. Back in 2010 i always been ready to response because i had only one cart and few customers, now i should support much more people and devices, but i still have only one head and two hands.

Speeches about rejecting old product for sell new ones is completely nonsense, i did NEVER get any sales boosts after releasing some updated versions of products, such releases always stays invisible in sales diagrams, only completely new product, which did not been in everdrive range before, gives sales boosts. Well, may be sd2snes pro is the only exception, but hype ends pretty fast anyway.
I making new products because my perfectionism want it, and they  usually not supported with old because i do not want be limited by legacy designs which were made when i been less skilled than now.
From commercial point of view there is no any sense to replace old version of products, especially if they do not have competitors. It waste of time to make new version if current version sells good already, but i do this anyway. For good commercial results i shouldn't release any update version of devices which already exist, only completely new devices should be in priority. Also, even if i forced to update something due outdated parts, i rather would stay all on old software to save the time, if my focus would be commercial profit only, but perfectionism force me to made all from the scratch and drop compatibility with old devices.
Oh, and what about sd2snes, profit guy probably would drain old stock before release new sd2snes-pro, but instead i released it before and start sales once pro was ready, old version now on sale with large discount and i still have lot of unsold, who knows how many time need to sell them now.
So, please, not make me again listen stories about changing device hardware to make more money.

As for v20, well, i really don't know why it not working for some of us, it work on all my test carts and all my systems. I do not know how to fix the problem if i can't see the problem. But what if i would not made v20 at all? N8 still be best in terms of mappers support and features, all would be happy with v16 or some v17 with minor updates. But i tried to made huge jump for N8, spent incredible amount of time for all those mappers and fds sound and what i have after all? Only complaints? I must say this is dissapoint and demotivate me.

I want to say once again that when you buy the product, you guaranted will take the item with specification listed on the product page on the moment when you buy it, nothing else. Don't blame me that you  did not get enough updates, i did not promised anything except what i already have.
I saw this reply and would like to clear something up with you. First of all feature wise the OS20 is fantastic and it mostly works very well. With the bugs I under it isn't easy to fix when you can't get them to happen with your systems etc. I certainly never meant to demotivate you or be nasty. My one point that I did want to address and still thing is important was the lack of communication with the update. I understand that you don't have to do it and that's fine but it would be nice to be updated on what is going on. Just something like "I'm not sure what is causing the issues yet, I'll try and look into it but need a break for a while first". Something like that would honestly mean the world to a lot of people. Again I don't mean this to be nasty, just a point of constructive criticism. I think it would overall help to make things clearer. With RC6 the NTSC mode on my AVS works fantastic, PAL mode works on the AVS using 1.30b5 mostly but doesn't allow you to reset as you get some yellow lines and nothing else. For PAL on my PAL NES most things work well but I did get an issue playing Castlevania 3. The graphics are very messed up.
As was mentioned before in many cases OS20 still runs better than OS16 at least for me.

Not everyone wants to spend more money on a new version if the older N8's still work good.

Of course, and those people can just keep their older N8s that still work good.

On my side I'd be more than happy to spend on a better one, get some money back selling the old one to someone who doesn't need new features, and enjoy a more reliable product. As the SD2SNES Pro has shown, there's a lot of people that feel that way about these carts.
There is one big difference. The original SD2SNES still gets firmware updates and is still made to be stable.
New hardware is for new features impossible on the original and for replacing out of date hardware. The N8 should still get updated to a stable state.

Yeah.  Based on his twitter responses, I think he's completely done with the Everdrive N8 and is now focusing on it's successor.  I wonder if he finally figured out why the Everdrive is so unstable and it came down to a hardware issue.  Hence why he has fully abandoned it and is starting over on the new one?

Either way, I wouldn't expect any further updates from him on this.
If this is the case then it would be nice if Krikzz could at least inform people. When someone spends over 100 dollars on something some kind of notice and transparency is expected.

Is this update actually going to happen because it has been ages since the last beta and we still have lots of issues that need sorting out? I feel like getting this update fixed and released should be a priority at this point. I understand it isn't easy to do but I think this needs doing more before releasing new products.

EverDrive N8 / Re: ED N8 60 pin not working on famiclone
« on: January 31, 2019, 11:10 AM »
Could just be the famiclone doesn't work with the EverDrive. Some famiclone are not designed well enough for it to work. You should try the EverDrive on original hardware if possible.

EverDrive N8 / News on OS20?
« on: December 28, 2018, 08:15 PM »
A while ago some betas for OS20 were released that added some great features but have some pretty major bugs. I haven't heard any news on a new beta or final release yet though. Anyone know what's happening? I'm really interested as I love my EverDrive N8 and RetroUSB AVS but they don't play together as well as they used to.

Ok I'll rolled back to one of those then.
What is the issue with the PAL mode using N8? Where can I download the 1.30rc5 firmware?

The issue I had with PAL mode was those SD card read errors, even with a newly formatted SD card that works everywhere else. 1.30 beta 5 can be found on this page.
I now have my AVS. It's running 1.30 beta 5 as the final one made the EverDrive run way too fast on PAL mode. I've tried different EverDrive N8 firmwares under OS20 and all so far crash the EverDrive when I reset my AVS. The menu also seems to run really slow.

I'm very shortly going to be having RetroUSB to use and would like to use it with my EverDrive N8. I've been hearing a lot of issues using the newer firmware so would love some advice of which versions I should use for my N8 and AVS. Also for the issues being caused which piece of equipment is at fault. The N8 or AVS?

RC4-RC6 have been fine for me on AVS (RC4 seems to be the most stable out of these), though I rolled back to the 1.30rc5 firmware since 1.30 final has issues with its PAL mode when using N8.
