Title: Will there be a new mega everdrive?
Post by: ccateni on February 07, 2019, 07:25 PM
I'm currently looking at getting an mega sg for my birthday in april and looking at getting an mega everdrive along with it. However, after the announcement of the sd2snes pro, i'm unsure if I should wait for an upgrade if it comes or get the x7 now as it will not be upgraded?
What do you guys think I should do?

X series is latest line of Everdrive
I know that, but what about after the X?
Is there going to be another model after the X series to fix problems with the current models?

Don't worry about it, get the MegaED X7.

This ^ The Mega Everdrive X7 is perfectly fine and does everything it needs to. Cant see what need there would be to release a new version. The SD2SNES on the other hand required hardware updates to rectify the existing issues it was having.

Well... *cough*SVP*cough*

Just saying. I wouldn't buy a new cart for just one game, but let's not pretend there's no room for improvement.

It's highly doubtful Krikzz is going to spend the time, effort and resources required to redo the FPGA on the mega everdrive x7 just for Virtua Racing when barely anyone plays that version anyway. The 32X version was superior and works using the Mega Everdrive X7 as long as the user has the 32X attachment. Given how cheap 32X attachments are these days there's not really any excuse not to pick one up if one wants access to Virtua Racing that badly.

I can't find them for less then €150. Is that considered cheap to you or should I look elsewhere than eBay and my local marketplace sites?

Just get it directly from Krikzz. At least you know its genuine, has warranty and not a fake like many on ebay. Also helps support Krikzz to keep making awesome gear :)

My reaction is a response to your statement about "how cheap 32X attachments are there days".

Have you tried local flea markets? If you're in the US I think it's possible to find a 32X attachment at a fair price, in other countries is more difficult.

Nevermind, I figured out you're from Europe. Well the Megadrive 32X is more difficult to find I think...

What exactly is wrong with the outgoing SD2SNES besides that it probably won't ever play several games? Yes... early versions had issues with the MSU, but the real drive for the new one was that the parts for the old one were discontinued. Could that happen with the current Mega Everdrive series? Sure... that is the nature of these things. For the OP... I probably wouldn't worry to much about it. There are only two games that won't work will likely never work on a future version. Not worth the time and effort.

It like waiting for last final ultimate graphics card or cpu, you can wait forever. I have to update all devices time to time, sometimes because i have new ideas, sometimes because i forced to change hardware due some parts out of production, sometime both mentioned reasons at the time. At the moment i do not working over new mega-ed, but i will update x7 for sure, because used memory and fpga already  out out of production.
