EverDrive 64 / ED64 Revision Request
« on: June 19, 2018, 05:36 AM »
Krikkz, can you please make an ED64 that functions as an ED64, but additionally has an n64 cartridge slot on top (to put real games)? This is to run our carts with gameshark codes. It's possible to do this on Gameshark but the keycode switching becomes annoying.

Even if the ED64 was $250, I'd easily buy it if it included the 64 cartridge slot on top (and as a bonus, a way to detect the attached game and the patches to apply).

Thanks, and god bless.

May the light of the lord shine on your heart.

Also, I don't know that any everdrive has that function.

Everdrive GB sends the game to flash memory and will boot the current game on cart when there is no SD card in the cart. There are some disadvantages to this since it can take awhile for larger games to be written to the cart and flash memory has a write limit (100,000 writes, which can take over 29 years to reach).

That sounds like a cool feature.  I would want something like that in the N8, or just a simple check for a filename or something.  Please Krikkz.

There's limited space on FPGAs for functionality. I have no idea how much space autobooting would take up, but it would necessarily mean something else wouldn't fit, either in the future or currently.

What?  Couldn't you just add a conditional that says if whatever is equal to whatever, boot to game, otherwise boot menu?  Why would you need a whole extra chip?  I'm sure there's a subroutine in there to run a game that's chosen based on user input.  If a game has a certain name (such as autorun), then immediately execute a game the same way it is done when a game is chosen by user input.

4
Just press start once it loads? If you want to play the previously loaded ROM just press start. I know you say you're aware of it, but why does it need to go beyond that?

The whole point of the everdrive for me is being able to have a whole library to choose from, not just one single game. I wouldn't want auto-booting.

I know you don't want it, but I do, so why not?

EverDrive N8 / So Krikkz, how about that ROM autoboot functionality?
« on: October 17, 2016, 11:43 PM »
I'm aware of the start button being a shortcut, but hear me out.

The Flow would simply be something like:

Put Game in NES/Famicom -> Turn Console On -> See "OS Init..." message -> Game automatically boots up (thus circumventing file browser visibility)

This could be influenced simply with a switch in a .ini file or if the desired autoboot rom is simply named "autoboot.nes"

You might think people will complain if they accidentally activate autoboot when they don't want it, but the latter method (renaming to autoboot) is something I highly doubt an end user would do by accident.  With that method you would have to purposefully activate the autoboot feature in theory.

Perhaps you already know this but you can press the start button and the last ROM loaded will start immediately.

I do know this.  I want something more automated  :P

EverDrive 64 / Re: [release] alternative ED64 Menu

64 Reproductions aren't possible, I guess.

I don't know anything about the N64's internals myself, but I've heard that the reason you never see repro (pirated) N64 cartridges is because the protection that Nintendo built into the N64 and it's cartridges was so good that by the time the pirates had found a way to make cheap cartridges that worked on a real N64, it was no longer worth it since the N64 was all but dead commercially.

I don't know if that's true or not, but it does make sense.

not true. pirated carts were available for the N64 almost from the get go. my first cart as a kid was a pirate International Superstar Soccer 64. it did require an adapter though

None of that matters anyway I guess!  I just wanted to know if the creator of this alt menu would be able to add a function to boot straight to a rom to circumvent the menu.

Pretty please?    ;D

Near to day when NES N8 will be released (End of this moth)

Hey Krikkz nice job.  Now that' that's done, is there any chance you could implement a simple autoboot to game function?  Automatically load a rom right after "Init..." finishes?

A simple "Please" would have helped you to find kind peoples able to help you...

I really don't understand people coming here in a " I WANT THAT" way... What do you expect ?

Maybe he's The Wolf from Pulp Fiction

"If I'm curt with you it's because time is a factor. I think fast, I talk fast and I need you guys to act fast if you wanna get out of this. So, pretty please... with sugar on top. Clean the fucking car hack N8 to boot the first game inside the SD automatically."

One of my favourite movies, heh.

My favourite line from The Wolf was:
"Let's not start ****ing each other's ****s quite yet"

But anyway, I diid not mean to come off as demanding as I explained in an earlier post.  My apologies again for that heh.

It would be great to detect if the "select" button is held down on the first controller so could bypass the autorun to get to actually select a ROM, now that would be SWEEEEET..

Another possibility besides autorun.nes would be testing for autorun.txt file in the EDFC folder containing the path to a ROM (less junk in root)

I also kinda like the idea of not displaying the EDFC folder on the selection menu.  Now I'm probably asking a lot..

Thanks for your consideration on these ideas.

Rich

Yes!  The former is a good idea, but the latter is even better.  Having an autorun.nes seems like the best possible option.

Maybe it is a lack of spelling. not everybody knows perfectly how to speak english, or maybe it was not..  :o

Well... I think the word "Please" is as well known as "Fuck".. I think he knows what fuck mean.

Sorry haha.  I did not mean to come off as someone demanding, I think I was in a rush when making this thread.

This has been kicked around a few times. I still think the easiest handling is something like 'if autorun.nes exists in root then start it automatically.'

I agree with this.

In other words, having the menu completely avoided.

I want the ED to perform as follows:

Initial Green Screen -> Black Screen with (initializing...) -> Game

To be specific, I don't want logic where "if more than game is in the SD, give the option to choose," I just want the first game or the only game inside an SD to auto boot.

I don't know if that's true or not, but it does make sense.

Couldn't they become "a thing" through having a custom autoboot feature on ED though?

EverDrive N8 / Re: [REQUEST] Player 2 support in Menu
« on: March 08, 2016, 03:36 PM »
So, any chance we could get this in an OS Update?

Can we have two things?

-Player 2 can now control the menu much like Player 1 can
-In addition to pushing start to load the last rom, holding it while booting will also load the last rom
What would be the point?

No real reason to have to have player 2 selecting games when player 1 can do it just fine.

Just press start when the OS loads.

For you, there is no reason.  I personally would like both features.
