Off Topic / Re: EverDrive DS Possible Someday?
« on: May 20, 2019, 03:41 AM »
The problem is something the size of stamp, might have build quality issues no matter what. Plastic is going to be super thin, no matter how you have it...

Even GBA X5's plastic isn't as good as Nintendo quality and my first case 'cracked' along the back, and Krikkz sent me a replacement, but even that one cracked in near the same place after a few months of use.... I don't drop my systems.... At least it works well...

I have a Everdrive GB (the version before the X series) I ordered directlyu from Krikkz and its case feels a bit flimsy, and the two halves don't fit together perfectly, it feels 'springy' (and that version doesn't have a 'save and/or reset button' built in like X series does)... It hasn't cracked though as far as I know... THe X7 I bought later doesn't seem to have any problems, and plastic seems to be pretty sturdy.

I've never had an issue with  my DSTWO + (knocking on wood), and I'm careful not to drop it.... and I know people with R4 style flashcarts which have never had problems and are still using them years after getting one.... So on one hand we can put it up to user's carefulness as well.
It's not the case that really needs super duper high quality. It's the electronics. The DSTWO 4 in 1 fell onto a hard surface and straight up died as It was still in the DSi. The system still works and everything, and the cart just.....doesn't now.

I guess all Nintendo DS games have build quality issues then, right?

NO way do you want a DS cart which sticks out a 'bit' …. DS cart is spring loaded so anybit sticking out would make it easy to accidently push it and dislodge it while in the in middle of a game. ESpecially on the later generation 3DSs which put the card slot on the bottom... Card slot on New 3DS for example, is much easier to accidently bump even with official games, you don't want to be having something sticking out that is all but assured of being bumped.
I wasn't being serious about DS games sticking out. My point, was that people decided to bitch and moan about something as trivial as the PCB sticking out, instead of offering actual constructive criticism.

I don't know if Krikzz can make a device as small as a DS cartridge, remember the Everdrive GBA :o
If the Chinese can do it, so can he! I'd rather have a cart of ACTUAL quality, and have the damn thing stick out a little, over cheaply made crap that breaks in about month or two.

Yeah, I'm just gonna go out on a limb, and say that Krikzz should get on the ball with a DS everdrive. The DSTWO 4 in 1 that I had, completely died after impacting a hard surface in my DSi. The build quality is therefore crap. They don't make these carts anymore and you can't buy them anywhere. Too bad, because that was the most decent cart around and they don't make it anymore. The only cart that MIGHT be able to replace it, would be the R4i gold 3DS plus (sounds like chinese quality, AKA crap) for $19. This is just ridiculous, that I have to buy cheap garbage for a DS flashcart instead of something that would have ACTUAL build quality. An Everdrive DS from Krikzz would sell like hot cakes!

Shop and Shipping / Re: All carts out of stock?

This is why. It's because of problems with payment and processing.

It'll be much better in the long term this way, because shipping will be MUCH faster from local distributors, instead of having to ship from Ukraine.

100% NO. There is no reseller where I am that sells the Everdrive model that I want. I'd prefer to order it from Ukraine, wait, and get it. Also this means Kritzz gets the money directly
Your loss then, as that's not happening anymore pal.

Here’s the reason he’s no longer selling on krikzz.com
“I changed main distributing company, and they going to setup shop outside of krikzz.com. I hoped it all will be faster, but it taken more time than i expect. Actually i did never sell anything personally, except like very early in 2010, too much boring  paper work (:”

SD2SNES / Re: SD2SNES speed vs original cartridge

I am playing Street Fighter Alpha 2 right now on my Pro and I think it's identical. That sweet 2~ seconds of loading before ad after each match, including the "K.O" is fun.

It seems there was a release candidate uploaded on 8/24/2018 (http://krikzz.com/pub/support/var/rc/N8/), but nothing since then with many release candidates release earlier in the same month. Was there a problem, or should I be using the latest version? I'm still using version 16.
He is still working on it. Most likely still trying to bugfix and finish off the mappers. He has other projects as well.

Nice assumption there, pal.

Honestly, he should make the code open source. Did SD2SNES wonders, what with SuperFX, SA-1, and S-DD1 having working cores. Pirates will ALWAYS pirate/bootleg/hack anything closed source or not. Fighting them is an uphill battle. The hardware, though, should definitely remain closed source. I got my N8 back in 2014, and seeing all the new updates, has made me more thankful than ever for products like this.

If we are talking about special cart chips/mappers/etc, then the same has happened with the N8, as there are several users who've contributed mappers to the N8, such as slammy, necronomfive and others. I was talking about open sourcing the main code on github aside from the mappers, as krikzz may be limited by his free time, his particular setups or consoles, and by his current knowledge level. If others chip in, it could go great, but it would also make it 300% easier for bootleggers to copy his code so it's a tough choice to make.

It's his decision in the end, I just threw that out there because I'm now seeing how the community is coming together for things like the special chips support on the SD2Snes or the MISTer project.
I was talking about ALL of it. not just the mappers. I did say that trying to prevent pirates from bootlegging code is nearly useless right? With SD2SNES, the only thing that was bootlegged, was the hardware. The code hasn't been AFAIK, because it's open source on github (Can't really bootleg what is already open, right?). But yes, obviously it's up to him to do with what he wants with his code.

If they don't work on your setup, then I'm genuinely sorry but no one owes you anything beyond what's advertised in v16.
Yeah, because telling someone they don't deserve a working product, based on the type of system they're using is always okay!  ::)

I'm genuinely sorry that you can't see beyond your own arrogance.  :(

I want to say once again that when you buy the product, you guaranted will take the item with specification listed on the product page on the moment when you buy it, nothing else. Don't blame me that you  did not get enough updates, i did not promised anything except what i already have.

Funny, I keep reminding this to people who act like self entitled dorks on this forum and all I get is hate and vitriol in return.

Krikzz, for what is worth, I'm very happy with my everdrive N8 and everything you've accomplished, and I'm very thankful for all your efforts.

On the other hand, if you make the code open source (probably a bad idea if you are trying to deter chinese cloners) then someone will eventually iron out all those pesky bugs for you, I'm sure.

Thanks again for a great product and support.

Yeah.  Based on his twitter responses, I think he's completely done with the Everdrive N8 and is now focusing on it's successor.  I wonder if he finally figured out why the Everdrive is so unstable and it came down to a hardware issue.  Hence why he has fully abandoned it and is starting over on the new one?

Either way, I wouldn't expect any further updates from him on this.
This is just plain stupid, baseless, and completely speculative. How the hell would he be "completely done" with Everdrive N8? Do you have any shred of proof of this, besides his Twitter? Did he tell you in person? Have you ever stopped to consider the fact that v20 is still on RC and actually hasn't been been finalized and he may still be bugfixing it? I guess he's abandoned EDGBA and EDGBC, since there haven't been any recent updates to those too, right?

Don't quit your day job.

I think a mod might need to move this topic to the ED64 forum.

Also, they can delete this post when they do.

Off Topic / Re: Would an Everdrive DS be illegal?
« on: January 29, 2019, 04:02 PM »
I remember reading back in the late '00s that many countries outlaws the R4 cards and the like, because of piracy-related reasons. Still today it is very difficult to find a DS flashcart in 2019. Someone more versed in laws than me could explain me if an imaginary Everdrive DS would be illegal?
Why would it be illegal? Nintendo doesn't even support the DS anymore.
