Truth is, I wouldn’t be surprised if those issues re appear with the new everdrive n8 pro. It is highly unlikely krikkz will code everything from the ground up again and he will most likely build upon his previous code. Another reason why we shouldn’t hold our breath for him open sourcing the old firmware.

It doesn’t have anything to do with not having enough space. Less technically enclined peoples keep trying to come up with excuse why it’s not Krikkz’s fault he is not fixing this. He didn’t explicitely say yet that he won’t fix the bugs of this firmware but if he doesn’t, it will be entirely his own decision as people even offered to mail him an affected console and everdrive and from what I understand he ended up refusing. His customers tried for months to figure out what caused the issues and the last finding was that it seemed that it might have to do with everdrive n8 used in conjunction with a famicom to nes adapter (even Krikkz own adapter), but by that time it seem there was no more plan to deal with this firmware.

I'm curious as to why they are working on a N8 pro, while the latest firmware for this version is loaded with issues???

From what I could gather from years of following the board, theres this idea among krikks’s fanboy that whatever came on your cart when you bought it is what you’re entitled to and any new update or firmware release is a gift from the almighty creator that should make you feel eternally grateful. I also think Krikks believe he supported his old product long enough.

My take is, he had ideas for a firmware, it didn’t work as well as he tought but seem to work for some, his attention went to something else and he is not willing to put the time needed to figure what is wrong, specially with yet another model on the horizon. I also have the feeling the fact the everdrive n8 was cloned and is now being sold by the chineses helped divert his already quite divided attention to newer, more protected and profitable models.

Personnaly, I think that, while he doesn’t necessarily owe anybody anything, he should fix up the bugs in the final update since he started it and got a lot of people’s hope up. Peoples discussed and tried to come up with what hardware combination might be responsible for the issues and tried to disgnoses this for months. It would just be good practice and pr in my opinion to fix it.

Now I’m just hoping we’re going to start seeing open source flash cart project because there is just too many products for a single person to support and I’m getting dizzy trying to figure out which everdrive version is what, what is old and unsupported, what is new or what is a “Pro” version.

This is disapointing but not really unexpected. This kind of things make me feel like switching my flashcarts for a MisterFPGA. It used to be that flashcarts were the best way to play retro game on the original console to avoid issues that came with emulation. But I am not so sure anymore as it seem it is getting more complicated nowaday with bugs from different firmware update creating issues in game using such and such mapper and you end up having to pay much more attention to forum to figure out which version is stable or should be avoided. I originally swapped my powerpak for the N8 as soon as it became available because I tought it would be more taken care of with updates and more support but the different everdrive version started multiplying shortly after and I feel it became an uphill battle with fixing bugs introduced with firmware update and game that used to work perfectly suddenly breaking. Ultimatly, I know it won't be a popular opinion but I feel I ended up with a less reliable experience than with my old Powerpak, which might have gotten way less update over the year but had very robust support coming from the third-party mapper pak. There was probably way less feature added but I rarely had any issues loading game using supported mapper and playing them.

EverDrive N8 / Re: Mario Adventure - N8
« on: April 29, 2019, 08:41 AM »
Hello Everyone; I have searched high and low, performed multiple patches, tried multiple combinations and still have issues with running Mario Adventure on my EverDrive N8. Every time it displays the same glitched screens. The "fixes" that are out there have links that are out dated (i.e. skinnyv).

Any help is appreciated!

I have just tried the link and it work just fine for me.

What happened to that plan of sending a console and everdrive experiencing the issue to Krikzz?

Come to think of it, I forgot that my Everdrive N8 is actually the famicom version that I use with an fc to nes adapter. It’s been so long I forgot about it since its installed in a north american sized shell. Reading some of the other comments, it seem that at least some of the others users experiencing issues are also using an adapter. Wonder if its a coincidence. Mine was also one of the very early, if not the first batch of Everdrive N8.

If I can help in anyway e.g. post my Everdrive and console with the issue to you I would be more than happy to do so! Just let me know.

This would be really helpful. I think i will solve the problem if you can send full kit (cart + console + sd card)

We could chip in for the shipping if you do go through with this. It would help a lot a lot of peoples.

Just noticed this. Has anyone been getting disk io errors on a blinking light win mod using any of the v.20 releases. v16 works flawless. Standard tray v.20 works fine except RC7 which will not boot period. Power Pak works regardless.

I have been getting ton io errors on a stock north american front loading NES.

Didi you try RC4 or RC5?

To be honest, I do not recall the last revision I tested. I kinda threw in the towel on this update. I should try the very latest one but didn't bother yet since it does not seem to fix those issues according to the different post from peoples.

Yes, and very buggy for many peoples. I think Krikkz thought he was done with the update and released the beta, then many peoples started reporting issues, he tried to fix them but then shelved it and moved his attention somewhere else. Its almost unusable for me so reverted back to the previous stable release. When he was looking into issues, I think he was unable to re-produce peoples io error and other issues. I'm not sure if sending him a SD Card with the issue would be enough for him to diagnose this but I have feeling that his mind is focused on other more exciting things right now (new SD2SNES pro for example). That's the downside of having so many products out on the market I suppose, you do not have enough time to split between your products. There is so many right now that I'm getting confused which one is which when trying to see if update are available for my different Everdrives  :o

EverDrive N8 / Re: SimCity Proto Released. Any chance for a fix?
« on: December 26, 2018, 10:05 AM »
Man, for years I have been hoping this game would surface. I got so excited earlier when I stumbled on the news, I went to put it on my Everdrive N8 flashcart without skipping a beat. So heartbroken when it loaded garbled graphic and learned that its using MMC5:( I hope it can get supported soon but had no luck with any of the new v20 beta so far.

EverDrive N8 / Re: Sorting Issue
« on: December 07, 2018, 04:35 PM »
My advice would be to use an old school fat file sorter. That's what I was using before the everdrive n8 had file sorting implemented and work beautifully. It will sort the file at the file system level. There is a few if you google for it but I think the one I used in the past is called Fat Sorter (https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/File-Management/FAT-Sorter.shtml).

And if you want to split your rom by letter to avoid the file limit, I have made a quick batch script that will do that in a few second. You put it in the folder where all your roms are and double click it. It will create all the lettered folder and move the rom in the right folder. You can get it at my site (http://dbwbp.com/index.php/miscmenu). There is also another batch script I made to sort by region. What I personally did was sort them first by region using my region sorter script and I then ran the alphabetized folder script in each region's folder to split them by letter. Once that was done, I ran the fat sorter and everything was nicely sorted and in alphabetical order. Let me know if you have question:)

EverDrive N8 / Re: Famicom version to NES?
« on: November 16, 2018, 06:14 AM »
It work. There's no reason for it not to. I bought the famicom version and use it in a NES eversince. As for the extra audio, it will work provided your NES has the resistor mod and that the Famicom to NES adapter you will be using has the audio line connected. If it does not, the audio trace is probably disconnected in your adapter (as it is often the case in some old adapter used in multicart), you can just solder a wire to reconnect the trace.
