FXPak Pro Scrambled Menu On Boot
« on: January 27, 2021, 12:20 AM »
Hey guys. I received my FXPak Pro today. Every time I turn on the system, the menu appears briefly but quickly gets scrambled with weird symbols. Here's a video: https://youtu.be/ZBFmomcDdNs

I'm using a Kingston Canvas Select Plus Micro SDHC 32gb card, formatted in FAT32 with 32kb allocation size. The only thing on the card is the firmware (latest version). I don't have another SD card to test with at the moment.

I just recently purchased this SNES from Ebay, and I don't have any other games to test it with. I'm also using the original Nintendo power supply, and I don't have another one to test with.

I tried running the diagnostic program, but when I boot up the system with it, again I see the scrambled menu and nothing else. The LED on the cart turns solid green and nothing else.

What course of action would you guys recommend? Trying another SD card or another power supply?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Try put some Roms on it. It was the same for me with just the firmware. It seems that the OS dont like an empty List of Roms :)

Thanks for the advice!

I reformatted the SD card with SD Card Formatter, added a few roms to a separate folder, and tried firmwares 0.1.7e through 1.10.3. No success.

I guess at this point I will buy a regular game to test if the system is faulty, and another SD card.

I read more posts on this forum, and realized that I have an early model SNES, which are known to be more problematic with the SD2SNES. Mine has the white lettering on the eject button, the four rubber feet, and a yellowed shell.

I'm going to consider buying a later model SNES.

I think the problems with older models are rare, and anyhow you should at least try a normal cartridge first and see if the SNES works. There was something about the clock on older models that the FXPAK sometimes doesn't like. But that's easy to test. Tape over the pins as described in those forum posts and see if it works.

I'm going to conclude that the first SNES I purchased was faulty. Everything works now on a second system.

Thanks for the help!

Hey man. I had this same issue, most likely NOT your snes. If it was the issue that I had (and quite a few others on this forum) which it sounds like, try putting a skinny piece of tape covering the left-most pin (make sure to just cover the one and that it is covered on the front and back of the pin). This Everdrive has compatibility issues with some of the original, early off the line snes consoles. I know, it sounds weird, but it fixed my (and many others) issues. I love Krikzz Everdrive (I have 6 for various systems), but this new snes one is by far the worst one they have put out. It’s completely inexcusable that they would release a $200 cart with this known problem and not fix it and expect people to be ok with adding tape to the pin as a fix. Hope this works for you. Definitely try this before purchasing another system as I stated above that it is most likely NOT because you have a defective snes, but because of an over sight and failure to thoroughly test the product before releasing it.

I think the SD2SNES has been tested on all kinds of models in the past as it has existed for many years without such reports being common. This sounds like a newer problem.

I agree that this should be fixed though. Contact Ikari or Krikzz and hassle them to fix it.

The pin on the front and the pin on the back are not connected by the way. They are two different pins. I'm not sure why the pin on the back should be taped over.
