SMS OS v7-beta
« on: December 21, 2013, 08:17 PM »
1)FAT16 is not supported anymore!!!
2)Fat32 support
3)sdhc supports
4)saves auto backup
5)new menu interface

http://krikzz.com/pub/support/index.php?dir=ms-everdrive/os-bin/

Completelly new OS core, sources of old os was not used at all.
Few months ago i started work over unified OS, which will be used for SMS, GB/GBC, and may be for some other carts. At this moment unified OS supports SMS/GG and EDMD-V3. SMS version is a first published build of this OS. EDMD-V3 version is not published at the moment, but it looks completely like original edmd-v3 OS and have identical functions, but may be with some "bug features" in addition (:
New unified OS is very optimised in terms of memory usage, it allow increase file per folder limit. SMS-ED now can handle up to 512 files per folder, genesis version can handle few thousands of files per folder

thanks krikzz. i ain't tried it yet but i was just wondering if there are any compatibility fixes with this new OS. compatibility with asterix and the great rescue without modding the rom for example? i think i recall someone mentioning a james bond game not working aswell but i'm not sure if thats a bad rom or a region compatibility issue. my master system has not been set up for a while to try the james bond game out for myself. auto backup of saves sounds like a great improvement, i know some folks were getting confused with the blank save file and accidentally overwriting the game roms.

I really like the idea of unified OS.
For now only SMS and EDMD are from this OS batch ?
What about SNES and N64 Everdrive ?

Did you also include the fixes for Jap SMS running via Bocks gender adapter?
My Jap SMS is now modded to physically wire the Extension Port as if it is addressed like the Cartridge Port (same CE signal on PCB) so I can't really test it, I guess I can try running trouble games (Rastan) from US SMS Expansion port and check if they still work as in OS-Jap-tst.sms

right, should of thought of that... the new OS has great looks, thanks for it!
I tested the new srm feature, it's awesome! But I have a recommendation: it takes much time for a .srm to be created and on the flashing screen during this time stands static... how about putting a blinking dot or a counter to let the user know the machine is working? I thought the sms had crashed or something while waiting for the sram to be saved  ;D

Unfortunately me neither.

My Jap SMS is hardmodded so the exp slot behaves exactly as an NTSC cart slot at the electrical level/memory map level, while at the same time my NTSC SMS has the FM board mounted in the exp slot so can't test there either without taking it apart.

Nice update Krikzz.  Only weird thing is that the sort order is kind of out of whack.  Starts off with files in the root from R through X, then page 2 has folders and more files.  I can't remember, does Master ED sort on its own?

It didn't. I used DriveSort to get all my files sorted on my SD cards for my EDs. I didn't have to do it at all this time, though.

Thanks for the update, KRIKzz! It looks great! Will legacy EDs get the same menu treatment? Specifically, the Everdrive MD?
