SD2SNES Video Sync issues
« on: March 24, 2014, 02:53 PM »
Hi, I am having issues with video sync when using the SD2SNES purchased from retrogate on my US SNES via RGB. The picture is constantly rolling vertically on my Sony PVM and on my XRGB Mini it keeps losing sync and the screen goes black. At first I thought it was a problem with my SNES, but it works perfectly on original retail cartridges, I only get this issue with the SD2SNES. Is mine faulty? This thing cost me a fortune! Beginning to think I should have got the much cheaper Super Everdrive.

I'd try a different console anyway, or at least try a retail cart that uses special chips (Star Fox, Megaman X2) on that console. Due to the unique nature of flash carts, there could be some issue with the outer contacts on your console that the SD2SNES needs for power and whatnot.

What firmware are you using currently? If you're using the current one (0.1.6) try going down to 0.1.4. The major game you're missing from 0.1.6's compatibility is Metal Combat.

And unfortunately, Ikari01 (creator of the SD2SNES) does not post here. You may try contacting him either through Twitter (@sd2snes) or via the SD2SNES blog (http://sd2snes.de/blog/). Since his little addition is ~ 1 year old now, seems like he's working on the SD2SNES a little more...at least there's more activity on Twitter from him.

Ok, tried the original power supply with a step down transformer and it works fine.
So it's this dodgy power supply I bought from http://www.robwebb1.plus.com/snes/snes.htm for use with US SNES in the UK.

I noticed it's only 8.5v and 500mA whereas the original is 10v and 850mA.

At least my SD2SNES is ok :)

Thanks

Yep. snes with sd2snes lost sync, if power supply is not good enough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhxSkxZgcK4

I just got an RGB modded SNES Mini today and it works fine with the 500mA power supply and the SD2SNES.
Maybe the SNES Mini needs less power than the full size one?
