Anything can be done about the off-key FDS expansion sound?

On my AV Famicom, FDS games sound so bad I really don't think they should be listed as compatible. Including some of my favourites Ai Senshai Nicol and Arumana no Kiseki.

There's always lots of talk about the volume of expansion audio, but little about the out-of-tune FDS audio.

Is it possible to fix? Or can this never be dealt with?

Kind of soured me on the product, I still have to use my actual FDS to play these games, annoying disk side switching and all.

Well thanks for the update. These are my favourite games (Along with Dracula II, Dababba, many other FDS titles).

Guess I'll have to load up the FDS for now.

Is it just AV famicom?

I'm having problems with FDS sound and I'm wondering if it's related.
I've got a standard font-loader NES, with the "sound channel" mod applied using a 24k ohm resistor. Using the NES Everdrive N8.

Most of the .nes expanded sound games sound good, but when playing games like Yume Kojo Doki Doki Panic, I get these weird "ping" or "pong" sounds where certain sound effects should be. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just the way it is for the time being?

Yume Kojo Doki Doki Panic sounds extremely bad on my unmodded AV Famicom. The expansion sounds are just distorted "pling"s, which kinda makes this game unplayable, unless you mute the audio. I hope Krikzz will eventually try and fix the expansion audio.

While improved sound via N8 would be good, I just went ahead and bought a RAM adapter and FDSStick (~$60 all in) to get perfect audio on FDS.

Yup, FDSStick is the way to go, no telling when/if the N8 will ever have working FDS audio IMO.

thanks goombakid. I was going to get a twin to try and avoid this issue but I may just get a regular famicom then
