SG 1000 to Master System patch?
« on: July 05, 2014, 02:39 AM »
Does one exist? I noticed that SG 1000 games that uses the legacy mode are just purple and black. Reason why I ask is because a multicart that i have can play super boy 2 in proper color but the EDGG cant so i wondered if they had to port the video mode to sms. If not, i guess im not missing out on much :D.

A guy on another forum I'm on is patching SG1000 games to SMS and burning the roms to create his own personal repros.  I think he said it was something relatively simple, like changing a header or something.  Over my head, but the way he described it it seemed straightforward enough.

Looks like he got a lot of them working, but not all.

So from what i read, you apparently need to put the master system bios in before the rom. Just need to find out how the hell to do that ;D. Thanks for pointing that out KalessinDB!

That actually doesn't matter with the GG and it certainly won't fix the palette issues. I believe the Everdrive GG will allow you to initialize the proper palette for SG-1000 games so you may want to dig around a bit.

Actually, their is no option to initialize another palette whatsoever on the newest os, so it sounds like I should just give up my hopes of getting it to work properly. Ill just get a Master System and a Master ED if I really want to play SG1000 games.

Pretty sure it should work with the old v5 OS:

I read that too but why would he get rid of SG1000 support? I just ill have to test it out that os in the future, but im discouraged to test atm cause ill have to run the backup os and downgrade my sd card from fat32 to fat just to check.

Apologies for reviving a dead thread, but I tried this technique or something like it. I was able to patch a few SG-1000 games I dumped so they would work on both EDGG (both in .gg mode with only center visible and in .sms mode with worse palette fidelity bit full screen visible) and EDSMS (behaves always as .sms at least with Gear Master). I explain a bit and include some .ips patches for three games over here: http://www.smspower.org/forums/post102407?sid=c2ce6e4db64522e9f8b07c269aa20bb4#102407

For other games my initial approach won't work as I'll need to switch to banked memory mapping as there isn't enough space in the existing unbanked address space to squeeze in my palette fixer
