CIC Chip still necessary?

Now that v2 can emulate the 6102 and 7101, is it even necessary to install a CIC chip any longer? If so, what is the benefit?
Does installing a chip still override the v2's ability to emulate the other chips?

you need a real chip to unlock the cpu/rcp, the cic simulation is software based afterwards.

V2 has always been able to emulate CICs but have always needed a real CIC to boot.
