[release] gnuboy64 standalone
« on: October 05, 2014, 01:22 AM »
gnuboy64 standalone
this is laying around quite some time on my hdd. ^^
the sound quality isn't really good,

gnuboy_ed64.zip

install:
put /gnuboy/ to the root of the sdcard

usage:
put your games in:
/gnuboy/games/

buttons:
c-left -> save sram

savestates and screenshots are disabled ^^
it would be easy to add these, but i think 'cause the sound is so choppy, it's not really worth it.
maybe it would be possible to use the ed64 sram for bigger roms, too. hm...^^

greetings, saturnu

Very interesting, thanks saturnuu. I've never tried this, how is the quality of the emulation aside from the sound issues? Is gnuboy64 a live project?

not even at release time the project was alive.

i wouldn't bother about the n64 as emulation host.
just use a cheap raspberry pi, wii or pc.

I have ED-GB, so I've no need to emulate--I was just curious about this little oddity of a project. If it worked halfway decent, I'd include it in my EverDrive64 game pack. I'll take your advice and skip it though.

I'm having trouble here. I'm not sure how it's supposed to work.
For NES game I just have the EMU.nes file in the root and then I can just select a game and the Everdrive takes care of the rest.

Here I have both the Gnuboy64.z64 in the root as well as the folders with the games but if I select the gnuboy file, I just get a white screen with some graphical noise and if I select a gb file I just get an error message telling me the emulator couldn't be found.

Sadly this "GNUBoy_ed64" don`t work on V3 versions of the Everdrive64. On V2 it seems to work. Maybe a fix for V3 is possible?

Can please somebody confirm, that this GNU-Boy version don't work on a v3 Everdrive64, but work on v2 Everdrive64?

I always get the error-message "bg-file not found" when i start the "gnuboy64.z64" file from the root-directory of my SD-Card. But all files are there in the folder "gnuboy" and its subfolders. Also the "missing" bg-file is inside the "res" sobfolder there.

Or can this problem have something to do with the settings of the Everdrive64? I tried different settings, but always get this error-message when i want to try out Gnuboy64.

there is some incompatibility with the v2.5 and v3.
it works on my v2.14 but i didn't bother to analyse this error any further.
it's not even worth it. gnuboy64 works but the sound isn't accurate, so you are better of with a $5 respberry pi zero and a better gameboy emulator. ^^

Hello Saturnu. Yes, i knew that it works on your v2, but not on my v3. We speaked about that in a PM some weeks ago. I just wanted to be sure, that this GNU-Boy version also dont work on other v3 Everdrive64`s and not only on mine.

I also contacted KRIKZZ about the difference between older v2 versions and the v3 in this special case, where an existing bg-file can not be found. Sadly he dont give an answer to that until now.

Even when this GB-emulator is not running perfect, it works better than the other GB-emu (GB64) and i like the concept, that the user can play GB-games on the N64. Hopefully gnu_boy can be made compatible to the v3 Everdrive64 or any other GB-emulator will come out in the future.

Is this still available for download anywhere (links seem to be broken) and does it work with ED v 2.5?
