A little new to this
« on: October 18, 2014, 01:28 PM »
So I've recently been getting back into my old systems

I'm pretty confident on setting up a everdrive now my small dilemma

there are 2 flash carts that are screaming "buy me"

Everdrive MD v3 -cheaper

Mega Everdrive -better functions?

aside from the price the mega seems to be a lot better
my question is about the mega and loading roms

if I have some games on the system I can load new roms without switching the system on and off? but the everdrive MD needs to be powered on and off?

my new megadrive coming in the post is a 50/60hz overclocked version I doubt I'll be running OC for a lot of games (sonic being the exception)
are there issues with running the mega in 60hz mode I should be aware of
EDIT: It's a pal system btw
thanks for reading looking forward to being part of this community

Welcome to the community!
Yea, the Mega Everdrive has a in-game menu so you dont have to reset the console to get back to the menu. However, some games dont have that ability (mostly larger or more advanced games). The EDMD V3 can reset back to menu using a reset button so you dont need to power off any of these flash carts to get back to the menu. The 50 / 60 hz switch will allow you to play any game but I've heard that the overclock can be a hit or miss with compatibiity. It will most likely work but if you have problems, first thing to do is test the flash cart on a non modded console to see if that is the problem. Hope that helps.
Btw, if you have the funds, Id get a Mega Everdrive. It is feature rich :).
Everdrives I own: ED64, Mega Everdrive, EDGB, EDGG, N8, Master Everdrive

Other Flashcarts: SD2SNES

Thanks for the feedback
I had read a few pages that people are saying the 12mhz overclock is really hit & miss but the 10mhz is a lot better (I have a 10)
I also have a standard MD so testing will be easily done and I'm hoping to get a Asia/pal one soon (trying to get the guy to sell)

I think the Mega ED is the way to go I have a donor cart ready now all I have to do is order one (payday)
can't wait to actually get it

I have a megadrive just like yours and it works great. Some games won't handle the oc but that's trial and error. I have the smaller flash cart v2 and use v3 compat mode ftw

Good to know, I'd imagine you are running 60hz as much as possible?

I'm leaning more towards to the mega ED purely due to load times (seems almost instant)
I'll have to play with the OC as you say but I doubt I'll be running OC constantly

Yea I use the 60hz mainly. The OC makes it fast enough unlike the sans where 60hz games chug.

Krikz likes his instant loads and they are nice but the only time it really matters in when you first get the thing and wanna try 100 roms lol. After that you chose 1 game, wait a few secs then play it for a while.

Sega 16 has a thread on games that work with the oc btw
