PANASONIC 3DO & HDD.
« on: December 13, 2014, 01:19 PM »

Hello again, some weeks ago I bought a PANASONIC 3DO from a guy in USA, via eBAy, he said it was 'working perfectly'. But I was ripped off, it is not reading discs, even after new laser assembly was fitted.

Question: can anybody PLEASE help with information relating to fitting of a HDD onto the 3DO - otherwise I am going to have to throw it away and lose $120 plus money for repair which didn't work.

I have seen a YouTube video of some guy supposedly using his 3DO with a HDD......

Thanks for reading this.

I was trying to a group buy going for these a few months back (get to ten nd the price really drops).
Somebody over on Assemblergames is in contact with the maker of them.

Apparently they are a pain to fit (expert soldering skills needed) and can only take upto 120gig, but thats not really a problem as theres probably only 30 gig worth of games worth getting

Mnemo's HDD mod has been deprecated by his USB mod.  I have the USB mod done to my FZ-10 and it's glorious.  I picked up a 128 gb flash drive on a black friday sale for $27 and loaded it up -- the full set of ISOs for 3DO is just about 100 gb.

Tony, you didn't mention which style of 3DO you have.  Stone Age Gamer did my mod, since the mod for FZ-10 involves some skilled soldering which is a skill I don't have.  As I hear it, the mod for FZ-1 and Goldstar is plug and play, though it doesn't look as slick as it does in an FZ-10.  But all of that is about the USB mod.  I don't know anyone that does the HDD mod anymore, Mnemo himself said it's been replaced by the USB one and if he's not making them anymore it's gonna be hard to get a board to do it...

IIRC, TonyN had a FZ-1.

That really stinks about it not working after all this time. If you're going to go with a drive replacement, go with the USB option. I'm not sure how the installation process is, though.

I assume the USB option is faster with loading,

Truth be said I stick it out at my games nights and nobody plays on it, so I really dont want to spend 100s on upgrading it as it runs CDrs anyway.

But as I said I dont mind arranging a group buy for it as I have done some ED GBs in the past

Hi, and as usual, thanks for suggestions and info.
I might be interested in a group buy of the usb mod if price is reasonable.
I seem to remember that the HDD mod was about $199.....a lot of money!

MNEMO gear is not cheap. Not cheap for one,10,100.

I do the FZ-10 mod its not that complex for me but i could see how one could kill there systems.

For the Fz-1 usb i would hold off on getting the board. MNEMO will be working with me to get a bios issue fixed on one that has rare bios.
