Game Boy Pocket and Everdrive play well together?
« on: March 31, 2015, 06:12 PM »
Hi.

I've read on this forum and somewhere on Reddit that the revised version of GBP (with the status light) needs more power from batteries to work well with Everdrive. Is it true that 1.6v batteries are suggested over 1.2v for a perfect combination? Thanks!

So, it is correct that with 1.6v batteries it should be good? :)
Thanks

The Everdrive actually drains my normal Pocket very quickly too. When the battery gets a bit low it won't even boot the menu.

Are you using rechargeable batteries, and if so, are they 1.6v?

I haven't got rechargables, not sure of the volts. I did buy the more expensive lithium ones though.

The volts should be marked at the batteries.

I have a Pocket without a power LED, and it seems to have the same issue. I do use rechargables.

When the menu pops up, you can press the start button and it'll instantly load the last game you flashed, no problem, so it's not really an issue unless you want to keep flashing different games. So maybe if you're super ADD, you might want to use a GBC or an AC adapter or something.

On a side note, is it just me, or does having headphones plugged in drain the batteries much, much faster? I had it happen the other day, and it just turned off, no screen dimming or anything. It wouldn't even power up to BIOS when I tried turning it back on.

Of course, maybe it was just some weird coincidence. I don't usually play with headphones, and I don't much care about testing it out further.

It would be nice to take full advantage of a flashcard and not be worried about only loading the last played game. :/ I have some eneloops (AAA hr03 Hr-4utg 1.2v 800mah), and if they don't work I guess I'll get a Game Boy color...

Get a GameBoy Light it's a like the pocket but takes AA and has a backlight. The light truly is the missing link between the pocket and the color. the Everdrive works flawlessly with the GameBoy light.

Could you please link me to that item? Also, not everyone lives in the USA, shipping and customs aren't the same everywhere. :P

Once you try the mgb 101 it's hard to go back to a none backlight GameBoy. Been seriously tempted to install the kitsch-bent el_dmg in my GameBoy pocket along with a rechargeable battery pack

Sure, I'm dying to get a Game Boy Light, but like I said, they don't come cheap, I have customs to deal with because they mostly come from Japan.
