FIXED - Sega Nomad: SMS roms crash on battery power

When my Nomad (w/SMS enabled mod) is running on batteries and I boot an SMS rom, it crashes to a black screen. When plugged in to a power supply they load perfectly. Is this a hardware limitation, or just my Nomad acting weird?

I'm running Everdrive-MD v3, bios 3.1, OS 1

I switched to higher quality Eneloop AAs and the roms load perfectly. The Nomad must just use more power to run SMS games.
