Battery Holders for SNES and SFC games
« on: October 21, 2015, 12:13 AM »
I want to replace the batteries in several Super Nintendo and Super Famicom games, and I prefer to install battery holders to make replacement easier in the future. Can anyone recommend holders that will fit with no, or very little, modification? Thanks.

Thanks. Have you used these holders on SNES/SFC games? If so, do they require any modification in order to fit? In case it matters, all the games I'll be replacing the batteries in are either SA-1 or SuperFX games.

actually i never use a holder when change mines, but you can use any holder, just solder a little piece wire if it dont match the board holes, just pay attention to not invert the poles (negative and positive).

with you really want a advice, this kind of battery use a very little power, so they stay alive for many years, i have games that have almost 20 years and still use the original battery and i never lost a save, just buy this kind of battery, they already have the plate to solder on the board: http://pt.aliexpress.com/item/100-Pcs-2-Pins-tabs-CR2032-2032-DL2032-3V-Cell-Coin-Battery/32314744287.html?spm=2114.02020208.8.4.KHPvIT

Great, thanks. I only need around 10. Do the batteries below seem to be the same quality as the ones you recommended?

For anyone who's installed battery holders, do the ones below look good?

The Battery holders you linked to on ebay are surface mount, meaning they have no pins, and also shipped from Taiwan meaning there will be a long wait. The battery holder Rafaelalvesals linked to is a three pin. What you need is a 2 pin like this. There is even a picture of it installed directly into a super nes game like you wanted. http://console5.com/store/parts/batteries/horizontal-holder-for-2032-coin-cell-batteries.html  You can pick up the batteries to go in the holders there for cheap as well  http://console5.com/store/panasonic-cr2032-3v-lithium-battery.html

As for the tabbed batteries, the ones you linked on ebay more than likely will work but are a generic brand. Wouldn't you rather have a name brand like panasonic? http://console5.com/store/parts/batteries/panasonic-cr2032-3v-lithium-battery-with-solder-tabs-pins.html

I have ordered from console5 several times and my packages always arrive in a timely fashion, and for some odd reason there has always been an Atomic fireball as a sort of bonus included in my packages.

Good Luck!
