Firmware ?
« on: December 06, 2020, 06:48 PM »
Hi all,
Waiting for the next everdrive from Krikzz for my SuperGrafx i've ordered a TurboEverdrive during the black friday sale. So i'm waiting patiently for it...
My question is what firmware do you advise for me ? Official ? Elmer's one ? What is the benefit of the custom one ?.

Thanks !

You can run Elmer's with the official one. Elmer's definitely has some advantageous.

Yeah, elmer had recommended not to make his firmware the default one, although I don't know if anything has changed on that front. Being cautious more than anything. So install the normal TBED firmware and use elmer's from there if you need it. I recommend it for backing up your save data!

It's smart !  8)

So the what are the benefit ? Better look interface ? Possibility of using the TED like a Ten no Koe 2 ? ... ?

Sorry for all the questions, i'm a newbie in Turbo ED  ;D .

No not the possibility of using the TED as a Ten no Koe 2, better up, the possibility of using your computer and any other storage media as a humongous Ten no Koe Bank!

It also fixes some games that are broken on the regular OS for some reason and automatically patches the Super CD BIOS when launching it to prevent hardware damage.

I can't even find where Elemer's OS can be downloaded. There is a beta here:
https://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=9417.msg71671#msg71671
Anyone know if there is a later version or if this is it? It should be stickied before it gets lost again.

Anyway yes Populous is said to be work correctly on Elmer's OS. He didn't say that he fixed it, but I think he simply don't do some weird things that the official OS does which breaks Populous. It also sounds like he fixed Ten no Koe Bank. Not that you need it since it has a built-in BRAM backup tool.

Elmer also said that the Super CD games Gate of Thunder and Dragon Slayer 2 has problems with the TED 2.0 due to the RAM being available which triggers a debug mode. Elmer's patched standalone Super CD BIOS fixes Gate of Thunder, but not Dragon Slayer 2. He said that his OS however uses a newer Super CD BIOS patch that does fix both games.
