SD2SNES June 2016 re-stock PCB revision?
« on: June 14, 2016, 09:26 PM »
This question is probably more directed toward Krikzz or Ikari. Are the re-stocked PCBs in Krikzz' store rev. F or G? Thanks!

http://www.zeldix.net/t1195-correct-msu-1-volume-levels

I was reading the Zeldix forum and apparently Rev G allows the board to utilize 5v instead of 3.5v which supposedly helps with the MSU-1 feature's volume level problem ie apparently there's uneven audio at times when using this feature and too quiet audio which apparently getting to utilize 5v of electricity may somehow fix.

Have no clue what any Rev H may be about though, but if I had to wager a guess maybe its yet another improvement for the MSU-1 feature?  :P
krikzz products I own: SD2SNES, Joyzz, Everdrive GB X7, Everdrive GBA X5, Mega Everdrive X7, Everdrive 64 v3, Everdrive N8, Turbo Everdrive v2, Master Everdrive X7.

Unless you're way into MSU-1, the revisions aren't that important.

MSU-1 is literally the only reason I am considering the SD2SNES. What should we be aware of with regards to MSU-1 and the revisions?

From ikari

The difference from Rev.F is that the DAC runs at 5V to improve on the MSU1 volume issue. See also http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?p=155367#p155367
Rev.G is otherwise identical in capabilities and compatibility as no core hardware has been altered.

And here is someone doing the G mod to their F board

I've done the mod on my rev. F. Here are some pictures.

Greetings

All the G board does is boost the volume on the MSU-1 audio. Nothing major imho.

Rev.H then adds an op-amp to finally bring the volume up to bsnes level. It also switches the DAC back to 3.3V because there have been some noise issues with 5V.

Is it possible to add the op-amp to a rev. F board?

Yes but it's a little bit more work than the F->G mod. I took pictures and am going to write instructions for it that I will post in a couple of days.

Thanks for the Rev.H info ikari_01 :)
Is there any update on modding earlier revisions into a Rev.H?
It would be great if a small add-on op-amp upgrade PCB could be developed.

Still working on the instructions... my PC broke last week so I spent the weekend putting it back together. I'm in the process of editing the photos for the instructions. Fortunately you can use existing pads on the sd2snes PCB to solder part of the opamp to so at least it won't be dangling from a bunch of wires.

Thanks ikari, sorry to hear about your PC :-\

I'm glad to hear the op-amp wont need to dangle from wires!
Will you be posting the info here, or on your blog?
