Got an update! I got the new LCD working. There were some random issues took some time to work out nothing major.

The LCD is this one...  Its a little taller than the cart. Just means a custom case would be a bit taller than an original snes cart, I kind of like it though.

It is about twice the size of the other one and twice the resolution it looks great! 480x320 is the new resolution. Of course photos of screens never do them justice. It is high enough resolution and wide enough to display the whole label, though a label doesnt fill the entire height of the screen. I think I prefer the box art to the actual labels. The Super Metriod one is awesome. Take a look at the photos.

Super Metriod Box Art - Looks Awesome!

From here, I need to work on a custom 3D printed case and I should be able to tuck all of the wires in to make it a solid unit.

nice! no doubt you have skills! maybe put those skills to making a new menu with cover art on screen  ;) or even new firmware with added special chip support  ::)

special chip support requires a very different skill set than have. I'm a software engineer. I'm not at all skilled in fpga work.

Looks awesome, good work. How long do you think the screen will last? I ask because I wonder if having stationary images on it for extended periods of time will burn it out. I don't know anything about this technology, though, so that's why I'm asking for people's opinions.

No idea. Though I doubt would ever leave it baking for days and days with the image on the screen.

:'( man, that's a bummer. How would a person go about learning verilog programming? do you know of any good online classes? or this something that you can only learn at prestigious and expensive universities?

This is awesome, I really hope it gets to a point where you can sell kits or have a tutorial on how to do this.

Thank you for sharing, I will be keeping an eye on this for sure.

Thread necro, I know and yes, I saw the warning. I try to contact the OP and this way he might get a mail.
Any news in that matter? Any source to build upon? This idea is too cool to let it die silently.

This is an awesome project, I'd personally try a smaller screen and have it at the place of the real label.

I guess you would need a custom cart case to accomodate for the space requirement for the board and all, maybe try getting someone to 3d print one.

Anyway I'm sure you have some plan, will be watching for this project, I'd love to make my own afterward.

Guys he hasn't posted in over 2 years... I'd say this project, at least from the OP, is dead.
