Some advices needed (Everdrive 64 V3)

Hi guys I'm a Nintendo 64 maniac.

Two days ago I ordered an ED64 V3 and I need some informations. I explain why I bought an ED64, this may be useful in order to help me.
I always bought and played original games, I don't like emulation. I'm a gamer and a collector.
Here's my collection, I have about 350 N64 games with boxes and instructions booklets:

So why a bought an ED64?
- I'm working abroad and I don't have my collection with me now. I just have my N64 and a Sony Trinitron Wega 29"
- I don't like how N64 games look emulated on PC, I want to see them run in the original hardware and on CRT
- I write reviews, so thanks to ED64 I can compare different region variants
- I want to work with my records and improve them
- I want to play unreleased games
- All the others advantages that ED64 offers


I read a lot of FAQs and informations, but I want to be 100% sure about some things so, even the questions may look dumb, I ask anyway.

- I found many N64 goodsets. Can you link me which is the best and most complete one. I want this characteristics:
. all games in all variants (PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC)
. best possible compabilities, everything must be identical to the N64 counterparts
. all the unreleased available until now

- Are records made with Everdrive acceptable in speedrunners forums with no exception? They should be, but maybe there is some variable that I'm not considering.

- Can you link me an SD card perfect for my purposes? I know, they are all the same unless you buy a very cheap one, but maybe there is an option better than the others.

I cant answer most of your questions but nice collection!

Perhaps you could use one of these: https://github.com/sanni/cartreader and then you can use your own verified roms? and perhaps be as kind to offer them to everyone as a download  I have used one to copy all of my roms and save files as I wanted to ensure I was playing the same versions of rom so that I can put saves back on the cartridges.

As for the SD, I would say go for a well known brand, a lot of people say they have problems with cards that have roman numerals on them. I would say buy a 4, 8 or if needed 16GB card as perhaps it is to do with the fact there is no support in the firmware for ex-fat. Personally I am using a Transcend 4GB Micro SD HC in a SD adapter which has worked perfectly. I can get away with a 4GB card because I don't like most sports games and only play the PAL versions.

I know for Zelda speedruns at least they use the system reset as a time saver, which means you'll lose time resetting to the menu and loading the rom.

Sandisk Extreme Pro 16GB for your ROMs. It is temperature resistant and has error correction built in.

We use them at work for industrial controllers. There is no other card that we use at that price point that offers the same reliability.

Congratulations, the Everdrive 64 is a fantastic addition to the N64 - it doesn't just let you play all the commercial N64 games (any regions, as long as your TV supports them), but you can also play 64DD disc games, Aleck64 arcade games, and the homebrew and hacked roms too!

Smokemonster has a very good and up to date romset that you might like, but you will need to join EPForums for that, the download on the ISOZONE is very outdated.

Otherwise, you can download them 1 by 1 on edgeemu, they are all nointro.

That guy should've never posted a direct link to the downloads. This could mean both problems for smokemonster, and the link could be DMCA'd. Plus he is sharing another person's link without asking for permission. I hope the moderators take it down and send him a warning.

That's a good point. I doubt the person who made that post meant to step on anyone's toes, of course, (s)he was just being helpful by posting the link. Anyway, I've pm'd him/her (Junninx), asking for the download link to be removed.

Is there a later version of the romset than v5.4? That's the version that the download link in the EP forum thread links to (and it's the latest version mentioned in the thread's text).

hm no that isn't correct, you have to unpack the archives first and than copy content of them to the sdcard. ^^
and it seems like you don't have 7zip installed, you can obtain in for free from here: http://www.7-zip.org/

the rom archive may be splitted, too.
you may join the files with hjsplit first, if it's needed.

Unfortunately I'm having some serious problems with it. I downloaded 7Zip and it does not work, so I tried 8 Zip Lite and WinRar, still nothing. I thought the problem was me, so I called a friend of mine which is a programmer and he didn't manage to fix it.

But there is nothing that I can click in order to download something. It told me to register in order to do it, now I'm logged and I can't click nothing, I just see the name of folders and everything but not link or downloads.

I feel very dumb because everyone say that use ED is very easy. I wasted 3 hours today, I miss my cartridges plug and play :-P
Hope to fix this.

2 things could have happened. You either downloaded corrupted files, or you did not install the 64bit version of 7zip.

The link for downloads from Smoke monster are at the top of the page, it should be only one since all of the romsets are stored there in Mega.
