[RELEASE] An app that sorts ROMs automatically
« on: December 19, 2016, 08:40 AM »
Hi, I made an app using macOS Automator that sorts the contents of a folder alphabetically, and makes subfolders for each letter.

I've seen many Everdrive users on YouTube organise their SD cards this way, and it's my preferred method as well. However, it sucks to manually sort files. I made an app to relieve myself of the mind numbing task.

Downsides:
It's using the Automator overhead, so the app is slow. It's not slower than manual labor, but the GBA No Intro set took my MBA 10 minutes. If I knew how to actually write code, I bet I would be able to speed it up.
Also, AFAIK, Automator is macOS only. No Windows version.

Upsides: You can let the computer do the boring stuff while you drink coffee.

Download Romsorting v2:

Be aware that this app moves files, it doesn't copy them. So backup everything you want to organise.

Changelog:
v1 Initial release
v2 Added popup upon completion, optimised workflow

I've been using FATSort in Windows. It works well, but it takes a little longer than I thought it would.

For folders, I'll put as many letters per folder as possible, but that's just me. On my GBA and DS, I have everything sorted by genre, I don't know why I don't do that on my other carts.
