Retron HD and the Everdrive N8
« on: July 01, 2017, 11:39 AM »
I have a real quick question that I hope can be answered?  Does the Everdrive N8 work with the Retron HD that just came out a month or so ago?  I realize that Save states will more than likely not work and a few other features like expansion audio, but would it work as a whole with the Retron HD?  Any clarification in this matter will be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

Nope. You're better off getting a RetroUSB AVS.

Thank you for clarifying this for me.  I already have an HiDef NES Front Loader, but am wanting something that I can take over to a friend's house or the like.  Thanks again for replying and have a good day!  :)

Following up on this instead of posting my own thread, as this is my question too.  Except I ordered and just received the Retron HD and it is not working.

I have the Famicom N8, so with the Retron HD I'm using the Gyromite adapter.

With HDMI cables, I get absolutely nothing when using the Famicom Everdrive.  And I tried all 4 possible combos to turn the cartridge/adapter just to be safe.
With AV Cables, I get a white screen.

So, is it definitive that there is no way to use the N8 with the Retron HD?  I had seen some "yes" and some "no" from reviews going in, so I purchased it. But this is really the only thing I was interested in, using it with an Everdrive.

What reason even to look at such things as retrons and etc if the world is full of such cool and still well functioning things as the original consoles? Which cost really nothing...

Specifically speaking about the Retron HD, it is a cheap way to get digital output with NES games not using emulation (although granted the HDMI output isn't that good and emulation would be more accurate than the NOAC that they're using in the Retron HD). Much cheaper than buying an AVS or NT Mini and cheaper than getting your console modded.
@Syboxez on Discord and some other places as well.

"Cheaper" and "better" don't fit together.
You need to choose one.

I have an original Famicom AV and an original toaster. That said, and as mentioned by another commenter, I wanted to experiment with a base-level system that had HDMI Output built-in.  Just wanted confirmation that Everdrive N8 does not work with this Retron HD system, that there were no workarounds.     The Everdrive N8 does work on an even cheaper clone system that I have, the RetroBit Entertainment System, so this fact plus some people saying "yes it will work" in reviews for the RetronHD influenced my purchase.

I canceled my preorder (of Retron HD) because of this.

Are we sure the Retron HD isn't using emulation? The Retron 5 definitely is.

All those false-consoles really don't deserve any attention.
If only it's the last console in the world and one just doesn't have a choice then it would be the reason to get it.

What to say about the emulated ones if even the hardware based ones are really horrible.

So far the only ok device is Analogue NT.
Unfortunately it has problems but comparing to all the others it's almost a perfect device.

Positive.  I pointed out the NoaC in my review and Retron's R&D confirmed this in their interview:

Yeah, I think the same. I guess some people like unboxing brand new things?

It's really strange that's currently 2017! year(almost like in fiction movies of the past) and there is no good clones of the classic consoles.
Those disgusting emulated ones... The "half working" hardware based ones...
It seems Krikzz must change that all.
Analgoue has made the NT but that's only one console.
A really sad situation.

True. Unboxing a new console is a really cool feeling but if you don't unbox a piece of crab.
Unfortunately there are few of new consoles having a brand new state.
So far I am aware only of Sega Mega Drive (PAL) in such a state (in not one item numbers).
Nintendo 64 and other too new consoles are not taken in account.

Personally I would like to have brand new consoles perfect clones of the original consoles.
It's sad that the original manufacturers like Nintendo don't produce them anymore.
Only that emulated crab that even doesn't have the original dimensions.

It's really bad that Krikzz can't be cloned and can't make them all.

Actually, the AVS is pretty much perfect, it just doesn't have all the features of the NT Mini:  http://www.retrorgb.com/nesavs.html
