Roms work with RetroUSB PowerPak but not Everdrive N8
« on: July 11, 2017, 04:31 AM »
So, I sold my RetroUSB PowerPak and bought an Everdrive N8 from StoneAgeGamer. I was hoping for the same level of quality as the SD2SNES cart that I previously bought, and better save game handling.

But I've had nothing but problems so far with the N8. Looking through the forums it seems I'm just one of many.

First I was stuck on OSInit... Then after upgrading to OSv16, it works but all roms seem to have graphics garbage. e.g Super Mario Bros or The Legend of Zelda (on the sprites).

It's the same deal as most others. This is an original NES without any mods. I'm using composite to a Commodore 1702 monitor. All original carts work fine and all roms work fine (via PowerPak). The SD card is an 8GB supplied by StoneAgeGamer. I've also cleaned all the pins on both the NES and Everdrive with 99% isopropyl, but it was immaculately clean anyway.

Is there anything I can do? Or is it a case of return it, then re-buy a PowerPak (and lose a load of money in the process)?

This could be a problem with fragmentation on the SD card which the EverDrive N8 is very picky about. Try this:

1) Reformat your SD card as FAT32.

2) Make a folder on your computer (not the SD card) with all of the games you want.

3) Download the latest firmware from here: http://krikzz.com/pub/support/everdrive-n8/OS/

4) Extract the EDFC folder to the folder on your computer.

5) Copy all of the files to the SD card at the same time.

6) Eject the SD card and put it into the EverDrive

7) Try a game and see if it works

Thanks but I should have said, I'd already tried that (using nesos-v16.zip). I pieced together that information from various other posts. It made no difference.

I have a screenshot of it but get the following message when I try and add the attachment:

Have you tried a different SD card?

No, it's a brand new one supplied by StoneAgeGamer with the Everdrive and it had their custom stickers so I would presume it's compatible. I guess I could buy a new card, but I think I'm just going to send it back and rebuy a PowerPak.

Here's the screenshot on my dropbox. Check out the sprites of Mario and the enemy.

Probably you got one of those carts from defective batch, it was previously discussed on this forum. Your cart should be replaced. You need to contact with stoneagegamer or krikzz.com support and request replacement. Sorry for inconvenience.

An update on this. It was one of the defective carts. StoneAgeGamer were great and swapped it no problem. All seems good now.  :)
