CHR Error 01
« on: July 14, 2017, 09:01 PM »
So my Everdrive has been working for a few days now since I bought it, but today it's started showing weird yellow pixels in the menu text, and launching a game results in a grey screen.  Self test shows CHR Error 01 (sometimes 02)

Has it become faulty?  Should I return it for a replacement?  (bought from Retrotowers.co.uk)

Hi!

Could you please make few photos of your PCB?

Aw man, it was working fine just this morning too  :-\

I'm going to see if Retrotowers.co.uk will replace it for me first.  I'll keep you updated.

Please let us know how you get on with the technical support end of Retrotowers.

I have bought 4 carts from there and not had any problem, but it would be nice to know that they look after us :-).

matalog.

Yeah I've bought a number of flash carts from Retrotowers (SD2SNES, Everdrive GG, Everdrive MD, Everdrive 64 v3) and had no issues with any of them.  This is the first one I've had problems with.  It started acting up this morning, and I managed to get it to work periodically, then it stopped working altogether after that... :/

Also curious... Should I really be getting hardware revisions from 2013?  I mean that was 4 years ago... Has there been no hardware revisions since then?

ok i got my replacement everdrive today and it has the exact same issue.  This leads me to believe it might be an issue with my console.  Anyone know what issues with the console can cause this?  CHR error 01?  bad PPU or SRAM?

Edit:  Ok, I have a faulty console.  I desoldered the WRAM and VRAM and swapped them over, and now I get garbled text all over the place.  Strange thing is, I can now sometimes get games to start up, but graphics is messed up, so it looks like im going to have to source a different console.

It tests cartridge CHR ram. It might be some problem with ppu address bus

well I picked up a cheap NES on ebay (has flashing red light issue) so I'll get to the bottom of the issue.
