The master gear converter as far as I know is a passive device (just reroutes SMS cartridge pins -> GG cartridge pins) so you should be able to load SMS roms directly in the Game Gear using the EDGG.

You are right this is a mistake by Krikzz, I think he copied the features list from EDSMS to EDGG.
